Where we interpret

On-site interpreters for immigration consultations at law offices, legal clinics and interview preparation

Immigration attorneys meet clients in more than one kind of place. Our interpreters go to all three, and each needs different details in the booking.

Law offices

Most consultations take place in the attorney's office. Tell us the suite number and where the client should check in, and put the kind of case in the booking notes.

Legal clinics

A legal aid group or a community clinic can book an interpreter for consultations at its own office. If several clients speak the same language, book one block of hours for all of them.

Preparing for an interview

Before a USCIS interview, the attorney goes through the likely questions and the documents with the client. Book the preparation meeting on its own, and the interview as a separate on-site session.

In-person consultations

What to know about in-person immigration consultations with an interpreter

When the interpreter comes in person

Immigration consultations are held in person at the attorney's office or at a legal clinic. When the client and the attorney are in the room, the interpreter is in the room too. USCIS interviews are held in person as well, and we interpret those on-site only. For a language with few interpreters nearby, the interpreter may travel from another city, and the trip is a separate line in the quote.

Who takes part

The attorney explains the options and fills in the forms with the client. The client answers, and asks the attorney questions, in their own language. A paralegal may sit in and take notes. The interpreter is in the room, and interprets in both directions for the length of the consultation.

The interpreter's role

In the room, the interpreter makes the consultation as clear for the client as it is for the attorney. Everything is interpreted in full, including the questions the client asks the attorney. The interpreter stays neutral, keeps what they hear confidential, and gives no legal advice, no opinion on the case and no explanations of their own.

Clinic days

A legal clinic often sees several clients who speak the same language on one day. Book one interpreter for the whole block of hours, and list the appointment times in the booking notes. A second language needs its own booking at the same address.

On-site, video or phone

Choosing between on-site, video and phone for an immigration consultation

An interpreter in the room suits consultations that depend on the place. Video and phone suit clients and attorneys who join from where they are.

FAQ

Questions about on-site interpreters for immigration consultations

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Can we book the same interpreter for the client's USCIS interview?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

02How is an on-site consultation priced?

You are charged by the hour for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book enough time for the forms you plan to go through, because unused time is not refunded.

03What if the client lives far from a large city?

We send interpreters to all 50 states, and outside the large metro areas we still send one. A trip like that needs more notice.

04What if the consultation is rescheduled?

Cancel in writing. A cancellation more than seven days before gets a full refund, one between seven days and 48 hours before gets 75%, and a later one gets no refund.

05Which languages can you interpret at in-person immigration consultations?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic and Tagalog are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages, such as Burmese or Pashto, need more notice.

06Are your Serbian interpreters certified?

Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Serbian interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
