Albanian has two main dialect groups — Tosk (standard, Albanian) and Gheg (Kosovo, northern Albania, Macedonia). Written Albanian is largely Tosk-based, but interpretation should match the speaker's spoken dialect.
Meetings we interpret
Video interpreters for IEP meetings, from initial meetings to annual reviews and amendments
A school team holds several kinds of IEP meetings during a child's time in special education, and each one is booked the same way. Tell us the kind in the notes, so the interpreter knows what the team will go over.
Initial IEP meetings
The team meets to write a child's first IEP. Many parents hear these terms for the first time, so send the evaluation report ahead if the school can.
Annual reviews
Every year the team reviews the child's progress, updates the goals and renews the services. The parent says how the child is doing at home, and the interpreter interprets both directions.
Re-evaluation reviews
The team goes over the results of a new evaluation and decides whether the plan still fits. Reports like these use words with no everyday translation, so add the report to the booking notes.
Amendment meetings
A team can meet during the year to change one part of the plan, such as a service or a goal. Meetings like this often deal with a single change, so book the time the school sets aside.
Video IEP meetings
What to know about video IEP meetings with an interpreter
When video is used
IEP meetings are usually held at the school, with the team around one table. They are held by video when the people involved are in different places, or when no interpreter for the parent's language works near the school. The school sets the time and invites the parent. The interpreter joins the same video call as a guest, so the parent hears the team in their own language.
Who takes part
The parent or guardian takes part as a member of the team and says what they see in their child. The special education teacher and the general education teacher describe how the child does in class, and a district representative speaks for the school district. The school psychologist or another evaluator explains test results, and the student may join. The interpreter joins to interpret for the parent in both directions.

The interpreter's role
The interpreter lets the parent follow the meeting at the same pace as the staff. A speaker says a few sentences and pauses, and the interpreter then says that part in the other language, in full, so goals, test scores and services reach the parent without being shortened. The interpreter is neutral, keeps what they hear confidential, and does not advise the parent or explain the school's decisions.

Before the meeting
Send what the team will go over in the booking notes in your dashboard. The draft IEP and the evaluation report let the interpreter prepare the terms, and the names of the people at the meeting help too. If the draft is shared on screen during the call, the parent can follow it while the interpreter speaks.
On-site, video or phone
Choosing between video, on-site and phone for an IEP meeting
Video suits a team and a parent who join from different places. Pick another setting when the parent would follow the meeting better in a room, or has no way to join a video call.
On-site
Book an interpreter in the room when the parent comes to the school and the team meets around one table.

Questions about video interpreters for IEP meetings
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
01Which platforms can the interpreter join?
Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, as a guest, and the Texliff room, which opens in the browser without an install. If you have no link, we create one.
02Does the school have to arrange an interpreter for an IEP meeting?
Public schools must arrange an interpreter so parents who speak another language can take part in IEP meetings. You can book one here, and the booking is in the name of the school.
03Can we ask for the same interpreter at next year's annual review?
You can ask for it in the booking notes. A booking is for the service, not for a particular interpreter, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.
04How is a video IEP meeting priced?
By the hour, for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book the full time the school has set aside, because every point is said twice and the parent will want to ask questions.
05Can one interpreter work with a family that speaks two other languages?
No. One booking includes English and one other language, so each language needs its own booking. Both bookings can use the same meeting link.
06Which languages can you interpret for IEP meetings?
70 languages. Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Portuguese are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages need more notice.
07Are your Albanian interpreters certified?
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Albanian interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
