Albanian has two main dialect groups — Tosk (standard, Albanian) and Gheg (Kosovo, northern Albania, Macedonia). Written Albanian is largely Tosk-based, but interpretation should match the speaker's spoken dialect.

Kinds of evaluations

Video interpreters for psychiatric evaluations, from diagnostic evaluations to telepsychiatry visits

A psychiatric evaluation is one assessment, not a series of sessions. Clinicians run the kinds below by video, and the notes you add reach the interpreter beforehand.

Diagnostic evaluations

The psychiatrist or psychologist takes a full history and asks about symptoms, sleep, mood and daily life. The interpreter interprets every question and every answer, including the ones that do not seem to fit.

Medication evaluations

A psychiatrist reviews the patient's medicines, asks about side effects and decides on changes. Drug names and doses come up often, so a list of the current medicines in the notes helps the interpreter.

Telepsychiatry visits

Telepsychiatry practices see patients by video for the first visit and for the visits that follow. Book each visit as its own session, and the interpreter joins the practice's own platform as a guest.

Evaluations by video

What to know about psychiatric evaluations by video with an interpreter

When video is used

A psychiatric evaluation is held by video when the patient cannot travel to the clinic, when the psychiatrist works in another city, or when no interpreter for the language works nearby. Diagnostic evaluations and medication reviews are the usual ones held this way, and the clinic decides whether a patient is seen by video. The clinic sets up the call, and the interpreter joins from wherever in the US they work.

Who takes part

The clinician runs the call, asks the questions and decides who joins. The patient answers about health, mood and daily life from wherever they are. A relative who knows the history can join to fill in details the patient cannot. The interpreter joins the clinic's call as a guest and interprets whatever is said, in either direction.

The interpreter's role

The clinician needs the patient's words as they are, so the interpreter gives them back in the first person without tidying them. A confused, repeated or unrelated answer is interpreted just as it was said, because the clinician needs to hear how the patient speaks. Every question reaches the patient in full. The interpreter takes no side, treats the evaluation as confidential and keeps their own views out of it.

Notes before the evaluation

Add the clinician's name, the kind of evaluation and any names or terms the patient is likely to use to the booking notes. The interpreter reads them before the call. During the evaluation, each question is interpreted for the patient and each answer comes back word for word, a confused answer included, so the clinician hears it as it was said.

On-site, video or phone

Choosing between video, on-site and phone for a psychiatric evaluation

Video suits evaluations where the clinician and the patient are in different places. The other settings suit different situations.

FAQ

Questions about video interpreters for psychiatric evaluations

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Can the interpreter join our telepsychiatry platform?

Yes. Put the practice's telepsychiatry link in the booking, and the interpreter joins as a guest. When the platform cannot admit a guest, we make a Texliff room link and put it in your project.

02Can the evaluation continue on another day with the same interpreter?

You can ask for it in the booking notes. A booking is for the service, not for a particular interpreter, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

03Is the evaluation recorded?

Not unless you ask. The interpreter is under an NDA, the connection is encrypted, and healthcare customers can get a BAA.

04How is a video evaluation priced?

Priced per hour for the hours you book, with the total shown before you pay. Evaluations can run long, so book the full period the clinician has set aside, because unused time is not refunded.

05How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.

06Which languages can I book for a video evaluation?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Korean and Haitian Creole are among the easiest to schedule. Rarer languages need more notice.

07Are your Albanian interpreters certified?

Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Albanian interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
