Video (VRI)
The interpreter joins your link as a guest at the booked time, speaks to the patient and the care team through the screen, and stays for the hours you booked.

Typical French bookings
Parts of the visit
The patient and the care team sit together in the exam room, and the interpreter is on the screen. Each card is a part of the visit the interpreter takes part in.
The nurse or medical assistant asks about symptoms, allergies and medicines, and the patient asks questions of their own. All of it is interpreted in both directions, not only the doctor's part.
The doctor gives short instructions during the exam and asks where something hurts. The patient's answers are interpreted for the doctor, so the doctor hears the patient's own description.
The doctor explains what was found, what treatment comes next and when to return. Add the names of tests or referrals to the notes, so the interpreter can prepare the terms.
Before the visit ends, the patient can ask about the plan, the medicines and the next appointment. Each question and each answer is interpreted in full, and the interpreter does not answer for the doctor.
Visits by video
When no interpreter for the patient's language works near the clinic, the interpreter joins by video instead, on a tablet or cart that the clinic brings into the room. The patient and the care team stay together in the exam room or at the bedside, and only the interpreter is remote. A visit where the doctor and the patient are themselves in different places is booked as a telehealth appointment.

The doctor or nurse practitioner examines the patient, asks about symptoms and explains the diagnosis and the plan. A nurse or medical assistant asks the intake questions, goes over the medicine list and answers practical questions. The patient speaks for themselves, and a family member may sit in to listen or add details. The interpreter joins from the screen and speaks to each person in turn.
The interpreter's job is to make the visit as clear as it would be if the patient and the care team spoke one language. Everything is interpreted in full, in both directions, including the questions a patient asks the nurse. The interpreter adds no comments, keeps the visit private and explains nothing about the diagnosis. A relative, and above all a child, should not be asked to interpret in their place.

Question to the nurse
Put the tablet or cart where the patient and the doctor can both see and hear the interpreter, and open the link before the patient is called in. If you do not have the link when you book, add it in your dashboard later, together with the clinic, the doctor and the room.
On-site, video or phone
Video puts the interpreter on a screen in the exam room. Choose another setting when the visit needs a person beside the patient, or no screen at all.

Book an interpreter in person for a hospital stay, a long visit or a patient who has trouble following a screen.
On-Site Interpretation for Medical Appointments
Video fits a scheduled visit in an exam room, when no interpreter for the language works near the clinic.

Phone fits calls about test results, medicines and appointments, when nobody needs to see the patient.

Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed French interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical.
