Places we go

On-site interpreters for attorney-client meetings at law offices, courthouses and meeting rooms

The interpreter reports to the address in the booking and stays there. Attorneys ask us to go to the places below, and each needs different details in the notes.

Your law office

The interpreter meets you at the office and sits with the client in the room where you talk. Put the floor, the room and the name of the person who greets visitors in the notes.

At the courthouse

Attorneys often meet the client at the courthouse before or after a hearing, in an attorney room or a quiet corner. Give us the courthouse, the floor and the time you will meet, and book the interpreter for the meeting as well as the hearing.

Meeting rooms

A client meeting can also be held in a meeting room at another address. Give us the building, the room name and where visitors check in.

In-person client meetings

What to know about in-person client meetings with an interpreter

When the interpreter comes in person

Client meetings are held where the attorney and the client can sit together, usually the attorney's office, and sometimes at the courthouse before a hearing. The interpreter comes to that address and sits with the client. Our dispatcher looks for interpreters closest to the address first, and an address outside a large metro area needs more notice.

Who takes part

Across the table are the attorney, who explains the case and the choices, and the client, who answers questions and decides what to do. A paralegal may come along to take notes or hand over documents. The interpreter sits with the client, and the attorney and the client speak to each other, not to the interpreter.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter is there so the client can follow the attorney's advice and give their own account without a language gap. What the attorney says is interpreted for the client, and what the client says is interpreted for the attorney, in full and in the first person, so the client's words stay the client's own. The interpreter stays neutral, keeps everything heard at the meeting confidential, and does not add advice, opinions or explanations.

Documents at the table

Clients often bring papers to the meeting, such as letters, contracts or notices in their own language. The interpreter interprets what is said about them, and a certified translation into English can be ordered from the same account when you need the document itself in the file.

On-site, video or phone

Choosing between on-site, video and phone for a client meeting

An interpreter in person suits meetings where the client cannot join a video call. Video and phone work in the cases below.

FAQ

Questions about on-site interpreters for client meetings

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Can we ask for the same interpreter every time we meet this client?

You can ask for it in the booking notes. A booking is for the service, not for a particular interpreter, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

02What happens if the client cancels or the visit moves?

Cancellation is in writing. You get a full refund more than seven days before, 75% between seven days and 48 hours before, and no refund in the last 48 hours before the visit.

03How is an in-person client meeting priced?

It is priced by the hour for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book the whole time you expect to sit with the client, because each explanation is said in both languages.

04How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.

05Which client languages can you send an interpreter for?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, Tagalog and Portuguese are the easiest to schedule near large cities. Languages that are rarer in your area, and addresses far from a large city, need more notice.

06Are your Bosnian interpreters certified?

Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Bosnian interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
