Sessions in the dental office
A dental visit holds several conversations, from the exam to the cost estimate. Dentists book an interpreter for each of the six below.
The interpreter sits with the patient while the dentist asks about pain, history and medicines, and explains what the exam shows.
Typical appointments
When the dentist proposes treatment, the interpreter interprets the options, the order of visits and the patient's questions.
Typical appointments
Before an extraction or oral surgery, the dentist explains the risks, and the patient asks questions before agreeing.
Typical appointments
The parent sits with the child and the dentist, and the interpreter interprets what the dentist says about the child's teeth and the dentist's questions about the child's health.
Typical appointments
After a procedure, the dentist or the assistant explains how to care for the mouth and when to call the office.
Typical appointments
The dentist or the office manager explains the cost of a plan and what insurance may cover, and the interpreter interprets every figure and question.

Dental visits
Most dental visits are held in person, in the exam chair and in the consult room where the dentist goes over the treatment plan. The interpreter reports to the office's address and stays near the patient for the exam, the treatment talk and the instructions at the end. In person is the usual choice for procedures, since the patient is in the chair. A rarer language may bring an interpreter from another city, and the extra travel shows as its own line in the quote.

The dentist examines the patient and explains the findings, and the dental assistant works alongside and gives instructions. The patient describes the problem and asks questions. At the front desk, staff keep the schedule and the bill, and a parent or relative may come with the patient. The interpreter interprets for each of them as they speak with the patient.
The interpreter makes the dentist's words as clear to the patient as they would be in one language, whether the talk is about a sore tooth or a cost. Each part is interpreted in full, in both directions, and the patient's questions go back to the dentist as they were asked. The interpreter does not recommend a treatment, does not comment on the cost, and keeps what they hear confidential.
Plan review
Send the treatment plan and the cost estimate with the booking. The interpreter reads them before the visit, so the names of procedures and each figure are interpreted exactly when the dentist goes through the options with the patient.
On-site, video or phone
Dental work is done in the chair, so most visits with an interpreter are held in person. Video and phone fit the conversations around the work.

In person suits exams, procedures and consent talks, where the dentist works with the patient in the chair.

Video suits a treatment plan review or a follow-up when the patient is at home.
Video-Remote Interpretation for Dentists
Phone suits calls about appointments, estimates and insurance.

Can't find it here?
Yes, in all 50 states. Large metro areas have the most interpreters, and a small town still gets one, with more notice.
The cancellation terms are in writing. A visit cancelled more than seven days ahead gets a full refund, one cancelled between seven days and 48 hours ahead gets 75%, and one cancelled in the last 48 hours gets none.
Every session is under an NDA. HIPAA applies to dental offices, and a BAA is available for healthcare customers.
Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.
A dental visit is priced by the hour, and the total shows before you pay. Book the appointment plus the check-in, because the interpreter is reserved for the whole booking and unused time is not refunded.
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Russian and Arabic are the easiest to book for a dental office. Rare languages, and offices far from a large city, need more notice.
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Hebrew interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
