We interpret Mandarin for hospitals, biotech companies, patent depositions, USCIS asylum interviews and import / export negotiations. VRI over Zoom and Teams is especially heavy on Mandarin.
Typical Chinese bookings
Meetings we interpret
Each of these meetings puts the caseworker, the parents and sometimes other relatives on one call. Add the names of the people joining to the booking notes, and the interpreter reads them first.
The caseworker and the family meet to talk about the child's situation and the plan going forward. Relatives who live elsewhere can join the same link, and the interpreter interprets for everyone who uses the family's language.
The caseworker goes through the plan with the parents step by step, and the parents ask questions about each step. Everything said is interpreted in full, including the questions.
The caseworker and the parents agree when and where a parent sees the child under the agency's supervision. The terms of the arrangement are interpreted in full, including any question the parents ask about it.
Video meetings
Family team meetings and case plan reviews can be held by video when the caseworker, the parents and other relatives are in different places. The agency sets the time, and the meeting link is added to the booking in your dashboard. Video is also used when the family speaks a language with no interpreter nearby, because our interpreters join from anywhere in the US.

The caseworker leads the meeting and goes through the case. The parents or caregivers join to hear the plan and to ask questions, and a supervisor or other relatives may also be on the call. The interpreter joins as a guest and interprets for everyone who uses the family's language.
On a video call, the interpreter makes the meeting as clear as one held in a single language. Each person's words are interpreted in full, in the first person, without softening or shortening them. The interpreter takes no side, and the call stays confidential. The interpreter does not tell the family what the agency's decisions mean or what to do next.
Going through the plan
One booking covers English and one other language, with one interpreter. If the parents speak one language and a relative speaks another, book one interpreter for each, and give both bookings the same meeting link. Each interpreter then interprets for the people who use their language, and the caseworker hears both in English.
On-site, video or phone
Video suits a meeting where the caseworker, the parents and other relatives are in different places. The other settings work better in the cases below.

Book an interpreter in person for a home visit or a meeting at the agency office.
On-Site Interpretation for Child Protective Services Interviews
Video fits family team meetings, case plan reviews and contact planning with people in different places.

Phone fits a follow-up call or a safety plan check-in with a parent who has no video.

FAQ
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
Yes, on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. If your agency's link does not allow guests, we create a Texliff room link, which opens in the browser.
Book the meeting by phone instead, so everyone dials in to the same number from any phone. We do not relay interpretation from a video call to a phone line.
Sessions are not recorded unless you ask. Connections are encrypted, and the interpreter works under an NDA.
It helps. Add the name of the plan and its main terms to the booking notes, and the interpreter reads them before the meeting.
By the hour, for the hours you book, with the total shown before you pay. A review that goes through every step with the parents takes longer when each part is said twice, so book extra time.
70 languages. Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Russian and Vietnamese are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages need more notice.
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Chinese interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
Mandarin speakers from mainland China generally prefer Simplified characters; speakers from Taiwan and older Hong Kong / overseas communities prefer Traditional. For interpretation this matters only for written handouts.
