Agreements we interpret
The terms differ from one agreement to the next, so tell us the kind of agreement when you book. Our video interpreters join negotiations for four kinds of agreement.
Prices, quantities, delivery dates and payment terms come up often. Numbers are interpreted exactly as they are said, so a list of the products and units in the notes helps.
Talks with a distributor turn on the territory, the products and the length of the agreement. Send the draft ahead, so the interpreter has the names of the regions and the products.
Licensing talks turn on the licensed products, the fee and the length of the license. Add the draft to the booking, so the interpreter has the defined terms and uses the same word for each one.
Partners negotiate each side's share, its duties and how decisions are made. Joint venture talks can run over several rounds, so ask for the same interpreter each time.
Video negotiations
Contract negotiations are held by video when the teams are in different cities or countries and cannot meet in one room. Each team joins from its own office, and the draft can be shown on screen while a clause is discussed. Video is also used when no interpreter for the language works near either office, because our interpreters join from anywhere in the US.

Each side sends its negotiating team, with a lead who speaks for the company. Attorneys for either side join to review the terms and the wording of the draft, working from the same version as the team. One side speaks the other language, and the interpreter joins the call to interpret for both sides.
A negotiation turns on exact wording, so each statement is interpreted in full. The interpreter does not tidy up a counter offer, and uses the same word each time the draft repeats a defined term. They are neutral, work for neither company, and keep the talks confidential. They do not advise either side on a price or a term.
Offer and reply
Add the current draft and a list of the points still open to the booking, so the interpreter knows the terms before the first clause comes up. When someone refers to a clause, the clause number or the page helps everyone find it on screen. Each speaker pauses after a part, and the interpreter then gives it in the other language.
On-site, video or phone
Video is the usual choice when the two teams negotiate from separate offices. The cases below are better in another setting.

Book an interpreter in the room for the final session, a signing meeting or any round where both teams sit at one table.
On-Site Interpretation for Contract Negotiations
Video fits negotiations where each team works from its own office and the draft is shown on screen as the clauses are discussed.

Phone fits a call between two rounds that settles one payment term or one date.

What you receive
Every file and session is covered by an NDA and sent over an encrypted connection. Clinical matters are handled in line with HIPAA.
If you also need translations
Certified translations are ordered from the same account and priced by word count, always into English.
The other side's financial statements and meeting minutes, translated into English so your team and counsel can read them before the session.
Contracts and earlier agreements in another language, translated into English with a signed certificate, so counsel can compare them with the new draft.
A product manual named in the supply or licensing terms, translated into English so the technical team can read what is being agreed.
