Conferences we interpret
Video interpreters for parent-teacher conferences, from scheduled conferences to attendance talks
Parents and teachers meet by video for these kinds of conferences. Tell us which one it is in the booking notes, so the interpreter knows what the conversation will be about.
Fall and spring conferences
Teachers meet each family for a short slot, usually about 15 to 20 minutes, to go over grades and how the child is doing in class. By video, the family joins the school's link at its slot, and the interpreter joins the same link.
Progress conferences
A teacher asks to meet a parent during the term, because grades have dropped or a child needs extra help. Put the child's name and the reason in the booking notes.
Behavior and attendance talks
A teacher, counselor or assistant principal meets the parent about missed days or a problem in class. The interpreter interprets what the school says and what the parent answers, with nothing left out.

When video is used
Parent-teacher conferences are usually held at school, in a classroom or an office. Schools use video when a parent cannot come to the building, and when no interpreter for the family's language works near the school. The school sends a link, the parent joins from home or work, and the interpreter joins the same link as a guest from anywhere in the US.
Who takes part
The teacher reports on the child's grades, work and behavior. The parent or guardian asks questions and says what they see at home, and some schools also invite the student to join. The interpreter joins the same video call, so the teacher and the parent talk to each other directly.

The interpreter's role
The interpreter makes the conference as clear for the parent as it would be if the teacher and the parent spoke one language. Whatever the teacher says about the child is interpreted in full, and so is every question and comment from the parent. The interpreter stays neutral, keeps the conference confidential and does not add advice, opinions or explanations of their own.
A conference day is a run of short slots. Send the schedule with the family names, and add the link in your dashboard. If each family has its own link, list the links in the order of the slots. A second language needs its own booking, which can use the same schedule.
On-site, video or phone
Choosing between video, on-site and phone for parent-teacher conferences
Video lets families join from home or work. In a few cases, on-site or phone is the better choice.
On-site
Book an interpreter in the building for a conference day when families come to school, so one interpreter can stay for every conference in a language.

Questions about video interpreters for parent-teacher conferences
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
01Can the interpreter join the school's conference link?
Yes. Add the link to the booking, and the interpreter joins it as a guest on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. If the school has no link, we create one in the Texliff room and add it to the project.
02How does a parent join the Texliff room?
The school sends the room link, and the parent opens it in a browser without installing anything. The interpreter joins the same link.
03Can the teacher show a report card on screen?
If the platform allows screen sharing, yes. The teacher can show a report card or a piece of work, and the interpreter interprets what is said about it.
04What if a family does not join its slot?
The interpreter stays for the hours you booked and is there for the next family. Time you do not use is not refunded, since the interpreter is held for the whole booking.
05How is a video conference day priced?
Video sessions are priced by the hour for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book the full length of the schedule, from the first slot to the last.
06Which languages can we book for a video conference?
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic and Vietnamese are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages such as Burmese or Pashto need more notice.
07Are your Punjabi interpreters certified?
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Punjabi interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
