Sessions by video
Video interpreters for special education evaluations for parent interviews, consent and results meetings
An evaluation takes several sessions, and the parts that are only conversation can run by video. Tell us which part you are booking, because the interpreter prepares differently for each.
Parent history interview
The evaluator asks the parent about the child's birth, health, development and early schooling. The questions are personal and span many years, so the interpreter interprets each answer in full, in the parent's own words.
Consent for evaluation
Before the school tests a child, the parent is asked to agree to it in writing. The staff explain what the evaluation includes, and the interpreter interprets the explanation and the parent's questions.
Results and eligibility meeting
The evaluator explains the scores and what they mean, and the team says whether the child qualifies for services. Add the report to the booking notes, so the interpreter can prepare its terms.
Speech and language interviews
A speech-language pathologist may ask the parent which languages the child uses at home and how the child speaks. The interpreter interprets the questions and the parent's description.
Video evaluations
What to know about video evaluation sessions with an interpreter
When video is used
A parent interview or a results meeting is mostly conversation, so it can be held by video when the parent and the evaluator are in different places. It is also chosen when no interpreter for the language lives near the school. The evaluator decides how each part of the evaluation is held. The interpreter joins the same call as a guest and stays with the parent.
Who takes part
The school psychologist or another evaluator leads the session and asks the questions. A speech-language pathologist may join when the child's speech is part of the evaluation. The parent answers questions about the child's history and hears the results, and the child may join a part of the session. The interpreter joins for the parent.

The interpreter's role
The interpreter's job is to let the parent take part in the evaluation as fully as an English-speaking parent would. Questions about the child's history and the results are interpreted in full, and the parent's answers go back to the evaluator in the first person. The interpreter keeps the child's information confidential, does not suggest answers, and does not explain what the scores mean.
The history interview follows a form, and the consent page has its own wording. Add both to the booking notes in your dashboard, along with the child's first name and the names of the staff. The interpreter reads them first, so the terms for development, speech and learning are ready before the session starts.
On-site, video or phone
Choosing between video, on-site and phone for a special education evaluation
Video fits the parts of an evaluation that are conversation. The parts where the child works with the evaluator may call for another setting.
On-site
Book an interpreter at the school when the evaluator sees the child in person and wants the interpreter in the room.

Questions about video interpreters for special education evaluations
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
01Which video platforms can the interpreter join?
Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, joined as a guest, or the Texliff room in the browser. If your platform cannot add a guest, or the parent has trouble with it, we create a link and add it to the project.
02Does the parent have to be at the school?
No. The parent joins the link from home or any other quiet place, and the evaluator and the interpreter join from wherever they are.
03Can the evaluator share the report on screen during the results meeting?
The evaluator shares the screen as in any video meeting, and the interpreter keeps interpreting while the report is on the screen.
04How is a video evaluation session priced?
The hours you book set the price, and the total shows first. A history interview takes a long time because every question and answer is said twice, so book more time than an English session needs.
05Is the child's information kept private?
Every session is under an NDA, and the connection is encrypted. We do not record sessions unless you ask.
06Which languages do you interpret for evaluations?
70 languages. Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Korean are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages need more notice.
07Are your Thai interpreters certified?
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Thai interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
