Counseling by video runs from a first intake to regular therapy. The notes you add to the booking reach the interpreter before the session, so include the therapist's name and the kind of session.
The first session is where the therapist takes the client's history. Everything the therapist asks about family, health and the reason for the visit is interpreted in full, and so is everything the client says.
The client and the therapist talk one on one, often on a regular schedule. The interpreter says the client's words in the first person, including feelings, without softening or shortening them.
Parents, a spouse or other relatives join the same call as the client. Each speaker pauses so the interpreter can interpret for everyone who speaks the other language.
Teletherapy follow-ups are shorter than a regular session, and the therapist sets the length. Book that time, and add any new names or terms to the notes before the call.
Therapy by video
Counseling is held by video when the client lives far from the therapist's office, cannot travel, or speaks a language with no interpreter nearby. The therapist or the practice sets up the session on its own platform, and the interpreter joins as a guest from anywhere in the US. Family members join the same call, so a parent or a spouse can take part from another home.

The therapist opens the session on the practice's platform, leads the conversation and decides how the time is used. The client talks about their situation and how they feel. In a family session, a spouse, a parent or an adult child speaks too, from the same screen or from another one. The interpreter joins as a guest and interprets for both sides.
On video, the interpreter lets the therapist and the client follow each other as easily as they would in one language. What the therapist says reaches the client in the client's language, and what the client says reaches the therapist in English, in the first person and in full. Painful words are not softened or shortened, and relatives are treated the same way. The interpreter takes no side, keeps the session confidential, and adds no advice or opinions.
Therapist and client
Family session
Therapy runs over many weeks, so it helps when the same interpreter follows the work from one session to the next. Book each session separately, ask for the same interpreter, and we assign them when they are available. Each turn is interpreted before the next person speaks, whether the speaker is the client, the therapist or a relative in a family session.
Sou plas, pa videyo oswa pa telefòn
Video keeps the interpreter in the session without a trip. The other two settings suit sessions with a different need.

Book an interpreter in the office for sessions where the client and the therapist sit together, such as a family session in one room.
Entèpretasyon sou plas pou konsèy sante mantal
Video fits regular therapy when the client and the therapist are in different places, or when no interpreter for the language works nearby.

Phone fits a brief check-in, or a client who has no camera or steady connection for video.

FAQ
Sa yo nou tande pi souvan, reponn pa ekip dispatch ak jesyon pwojè nou yo.
Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?
Yes. The interpreter joins your session link as a guest. If your platform cannot add a guest, we create a Texliff room link, which opens in the browser, and add it to your project.
Family members, and children in particular, should not interpret in therapy. Clinics that receive federal funds are expected to bring in a qualified interpreter, and should not rely on a client's minor child except in an emergency.
An NDA applies to every session, and the video connection is encrypted. Clinical sessions follow HIPAA, a BAA is available for healthcare customers, and nothing is recorded unless you ask.
Video sessions cost the hourly rate for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book the full length of the session, because the interpreter is reserved for the whole booking and unused time is not refunded.
No. A booking is for English and one other language. A second language needs its own booking, and it can use the same session link.
70 languages. Spanish, Russian, Korean, Haitian Creole and Tagalog are among the easiest to schedule, and rarer languages need more notice.
