Indirect communication, seniority-based address and face-saving conventions materially affect depositions and negotiations. Our Mandarin interpreters are trained to render content faithfully without normalising politeness away.

When phone works

Phone interpreters for factory audit calls, from worker interviews to follow-ups

Most of an audit needs the floor or a screen. A phone interpreter is enough for the calls around an audit that are only conversation.

Phone interviews with workers

Where the audit plan uses phone interviews, the interpreter adds the worker to the call once the others are on the line. Everything is interpreted in full, and what the worker says stays confidential.

Follow-up on corrective actions

After an audit, the auditor calls the plant to ask what has changed since the findings. The interpreter interprets the questions and the answers of the plant manager.

Scheduling the audit

The auditor and the plant manager agree on the dates, the audit plan and who will be interviewed. The interpreter interprets the call for the language the plant manager speaks.

Audit calls

What to know about phone calls for factory audits with an interpreter

When phone is used

Phone is used for the parts of an audit that are only conversation, such as an interview, a follow-up question or a call to agree on dates. Nobody can see the floor or a document on a phone, so records go to the auditor beforehand. The interpreter dials in from anywhere in the US, which helps when no interpreter for the plant's language works nearby.

Who is on the line

The auditor dials in and leads the call. The plant manager joins scheduling and follow-up calls, and a worker joins an interview. Everyone dials in to the same line, and once the others are on, the interpreter can add the worker. Nobody has to be at the plant or in the auditor's office.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter's job is to make the call as clear as one held in a single language. On a call, nobody sees who is about to speak, so the interpreter keeps the turns clear and interprets each part in full, in both directions. Nothing is shortened. The interpreter gives no advice on what to say, and a worker's answers stay confidential.

Interview schedule

Put the times of the worker interviews in the booking notes. The interpreter dials in, adds each worker once the auditor is on the line, and keeps every interview confidential. One booking can hold several interviews in a row in the same language.

On-site, video or phone

Choosing between phone, video and on-site for a factory audit

Phone is for the conversation parts of an audit. When the auditor needs to see something, pick video or an interpreter at the plant.

If you also need translations

If you also need documents translated for the auditor

A phone call has no screen, so the records an auditor wants to discuss should reach them in English before the call.

FAQ

Questions about phone interpreters for factory audits

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Can a worker interview be held by phone?

It depends on the audit plan, which the auditor sets. When the plan allows a phone interview, no manager has to be on the line.

02What should we add to the booking for a follow-up call?

The list of corrective actions, so the interpreter can read the terms before the call. Documents in the plant's language can be translated into English first.

03Can the call move to video?

Yes, if the call turns out to need the floor or a document on screen. We change the booking to a video session when the interpreter is available.

04How is a phone call priced?

You pay for the booked time, and the total shows before payment. An interview in two languages runs longer than one in English, so book a little more time than you expect.

05How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.

06Which languages can the interpreter work in by phone?

70 languages. Spanish, Tagalog and Portuguese are the easiest to schedule by phone, and Pashto needs more notice.

07Are your Chinese interpreters certified?

Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Chinese interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.

08Do you cover all Chinese dialects?

Mandarin speakers from mainland China generally prefer Simplified characters; speakers from Taiwan and older Hong Kong / overseas communities prefer Traditional. For interpretation this matters only for written handouts.
