Meetings we interpret

Video interpreters for attorney-client meetings, from intake to testimony preparation and document review

A video meeting lets the attorney reach a client wherever the client is. Attorneys book us for the four kinds of meetings below, and each takes different notes.

New client intake

The attorney asks about the client's situation, and the client tells the story in their own language. Add the practice area and the names of any other people involved, so the interpreter can prepare the terms.

Case updates

Attorneys explain where the case stands, what the other side has done and what comes next. The interpreter interprets the whole explanation, so the client can ask questions and decide with the same information the attorney has.

Preparing to testify

Before a deposition or a hearing, the attorney walks the client through the kinds of questions to expect. Practice questions are interpreted one at a time, as they will be in the real session, so the client gets used to speaking in short parts and pausing.

Going over documents

The attorney reads a contract, a letter or a settlement offer with the client on a shared screen. The interpreter interprets what the attorney explains and every question the client asks.

Remote client meetings

What to know about video client meetings with an interpreter

When video is used

Attorney-client meetings are usually held at the attorney's office, when the client can come in. They are held by video when the attorney and the client are in different places, or when no interpreter for the client's language works near the office. The attorney sends a meeting link, or uses a Texliff room that opens in the browser, and the interpreter joins the same link as a guest.

Who takes part

The attorney leads the meeting, explains the law, the options and the next steps, and asks the client about the facts. The client describes what happened and asks questions. A paralegal sometimes joins to take notes or collect documents. The interpreter joins the same link as the others, and the attorney and the client speak to each other directly.

The interpreter's role

The attorney's advice reaches the client in the client's own language, and the client's account reaches the attorney in English, in the first person. Each speaker says a part and pauses, and the interpreter then interprets it in full, with nothing summarized or left out. The interpreter is neutral, keeps what they hear confidential, and leaves the legal advice to the attorney.

Notes and documents ahead

Add the case name, the names of the parties and any legal terms to the booking notes. If you will go through a paper with the client, add it to the notes too, so the interpreter can read the terms first. The names and terms are then not new on the call.

On-site, video or phone

Choosing between video, on-site and phone for a client meeting

Video works when the attorney and the client are in different places. The other two settings are better in the cases below.

FAQ

Questions about video interpreters for client meetings

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Can the interpreter join the video link our firm already uses?

Yes. Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet links all work, and the Texliff room opens in the browser. Add your link in the dashboard, or we create one for you.

02Is the meeting recorded?

No, sessions are not recorded unless you ask. Every session falls under an NDA, and the connection is encrypted.

03Can we use the same interpreter for each meeting with a client?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

04How is a video client meeting priced?

By the hour, for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book enough time for the whole conversation, because the interpreter is reserved for the entire booking and unused time is not refunded.

05Can you translate the documents the client brings?

Yes. Certified translations into English are ordered from the same account and priced by word count. Each comes as a PDF with a signed certificate.

06Which languages can you interpret by video?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Arabic, Korean and Russian are the easiest to schedule. A language such as Burmese or Pashto needs more notice.

07Are your Greek interpreters certified?

Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Greek interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
