Exams we interpret
Our video interpreters join the three kinds of sessions below for an independent medical examination.
The examiner asks about the injury, the treatment so far and the claimant's work and daily life. The interpreter interprets each question and each answer, so the examiner hears the history in the claimant's own words.
When the examiner does the exam over video, the claimant is asked to move or to describe a symptom. The interpreter interprets those instructions and the claimant's replies.
A psychologist interviews the claimant by video about symptoms, history and daily life. The interpreter interprets the answers as they are given.
Remote exams
The doctor has to examine the claimant for the physical part, so those exams are done in person. The examiner may hold the history interview, a psychological exam or a follow-up by video, and the examiner decides what can be done remotely. Video is also chosen when no interpreter for the claimant's language works near the examiner's office, since a video interpreter can join from anywhere in the US.

The doctor who examines the claimant is chosen by the insurer or the defense side, and directs the exam on the call. The claimant answers the questions and follows the doctor's instructions. The claimant's attorney or another observer may attend where the rules allow it. The interpreter is on the same call, so the doctor and the claimant understand each other.
The interpreter helps the doctor and the claimant understand each other as clearly as if they spoke one language. The history and each instruction, such as asking the claimant to raise an arm or point to where it hurts, are interpreted, and the claimant's answers go back to the doctor in the first person. The interpreter works for neither the insurer nor the claimant, keeps what they hear confidential, and does not comment on the exam.

Exam instructions
Add the examiner's link to the booking as soon as you have it, or use the Texliff room link we create. Send the same link and the start time to the claimant, who joins from their own location. Notes with the claim number, the injury and the names of the treating doctors let the interpreter prepare the terms.
On-site, video or phone
The doctor has to examine the claimant, so many exams happen in person. Video and phone suit the parts that do not need the doctor in the room.

Book an interpreter in person for a physical exam in the examiner's office, where the claimant moves and the doctor examines.
On-Site Interpretation for Independent Medical Examinations
Video fits history interviews, psychological examinations and follow-ups that the examiner agrees to hold remotely.

A short history call or a scheduling call can go by phone if the examiner does not need to see the claimant.

FAQ
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
Yes. Add the link the examiner or the insurer sent, and the interpreter joins as a guest. Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet all work, and the Texliff room opens in a browser with no install.
We do not record sessions unless you ask, an NDA applies to every session, and connections are encrypted. Whether the examiner records the exam is the examiner's decision.
You can ask for it in the booking notes. A booking is for the service, not for a particular interpreter, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.
By the hour, for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book the time the examiner has set aside, with a little extra, because each question and answer is repeated in the other language.
At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Arabic, Korean and Portuguese are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages need more notice.
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Dari interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
