Cases we interpret
Video interpreters for settlement conferences in injury, employment, contract and landlord-tenant cases
A judge or magistrate holds a settlement conference when a case could end by agreement. We interpret for a party by video in the kinds of cases below.
Personal injury cases
The plaintiff hears the defense offer and the judge's view of the case through the interpreter. An insurance representative with authority to settle often attends, so the party may hear several figures in one session.
Employment cases
A current or former employee in a wage or termination case hears the judge's questions about the claim and the employer's offer. Add pay terms, dates of employment and job titles to the booking notes.
Contract disputes
Small business owners and the companies they deal with attend with counsel. The judge talks through the amount in dispute with each side, and every figure and date is interpreted as said. Send the agreement or the key terms with the booking.
Landlord-tenant cases
Tenants and landlords who speak another language use the interpreter when the judge talks through the amount owed and the terms of an agreement. Add the address of the rental and the names of both sides to the booking notes.
Settlement by video
What to know about video settlement conferences with an interpreter
When video is used
The court orders a settlement conference. When the court holds it online, the court gives the parties the link, and each party joins from their own location. Video also helps when no interpreter for the language works near the courthouse, because our interpreters join from anywhere in the US.
Who takes part
A judge, magistrate or settlement officer leads the conference and speaks with each side. Each party joins with an attorney, and an insurance representative with authority to settle often attends too. When one party speaks another language, an interpreter joins the call as a guest and stays with that party.

The interpreter's role
The interpreter carries the conference between English and the party's language, one speaker at a time. The judge's questions, the other side's offers and the party's answers are all interpreted in full. The interpreter is in the judge's private session with the party and in the talk where the attorney explains an offer. The interpreter stays neutral, keeps it confidential and leaves the decision to the party.

The court's link
The link comes from the court, so you may not have it when you book. You can book the interpreter as soon as the conference is set, and add the link in your dashboard when you have it. Add the court and the case name to the notes as well.
On-site, video or phone

Video is the choice when the court holds the conference online. The other settings fit the cases below.

Can't find it here?
01Does the court allow a remote interpreter?
Each court decides when remote interpreting is allowed, so check the court's order first. Name the court and the type of conference in your booking notes.
02Will the interpreter know the case before the conference?
Only what you tell us. Add the case name, the names of the parties and the main terms to the booking notes, and the interpreter reads them before the conference.
03What if the other party speaks a different language too?
Each booking pairs English with one other language, so a second language needs a second booking, and both can use the court's link.
04How is a settlement conference by video priced?
The price is by the hour, and the total for the booked hours shows before you pay. Book the time the court has set aside, because the interpreter is reserved for the whole booking and unused time is not refunded.
05What happens if we have to cancel the booking?
Cancellation is in writing. You get a full refund more than seven days before the conference, 75% between seven days and 48 hours before, and no refund in the last 48 hours.
06Which languages do you cover for settlement conferences by video?
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic and Haitian Creole are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages need more notice.
07Are your Romanian interpreters certified?
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Romanian interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
