Clients come to a community mental health center to see a counselor, and the center sets the length of each appointment. Give us the floor and the counselor's name, and book the time the appointment is scheduled for.
School counseling offices

What to know about in-person counseling with an interpreter
When the interpreter comes in person
Counseling is usually held in person, in the therapist's office, and the interpreter sits in the room with the client. For a family session, the family comes to the same room, and the interpreter interprets for each person who speaks the other language. Our dispatcher looks for interpreters closest to the address first, and outside the big metro areas we still send one, with more notice.
Who takes part
The therapist leads the session, decides how the time is spent and decides where the interpreter sits. The client describes what has been happening and answers the therapist's questions. In a family session, a parent, a spouse or another relative joins the client in the same room. The interpreter carries the language between them and takes no side.

The interpreter's role
The interpreter lets the client and the therapist understand each other as fully as if they spoke one language. Every sentence from the therapist is interpreted for the client, and every sentence from the client is interpreted back, in the first person. Hard or angry words are interpreted as they were said, with nothing softened and nothing left out. The interpreter stays neutral, keeps what they hear confidential, and adds no advice, opinions or explanations.

Family sessions
In a family session, one person speaks at a time. A relative says a part, the interpreter says it in English for the therapist, and the therapist's reply is interpreted back before the next person speaks. Tell us in the notes how many people will attend and which language the family speaks, because one booking is for English and one other language.

01Can the interpreter come to a school counseling office?
Yes, to any address. Give the school's address and the entry steps in the notes, and the interpreter reports to that one address.
02Can we book the same interpreter for every session?
You can ask for it in the booking notes. A booking is for the service, not for a particular interpreter, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.
03What happens if the client cancels?
Cancellation is in writing. Cancel more than seven days ahead for a full refund. Between seven days and 48 hours ahead, the refund is 75%, and closer than 48 hours there is no refund.
04How is an office session priced?
You pay by the hour for the hours you book, and you see the total before paying. Book the length the appointment is scheduled for, because the interpreter is reserved for all of it and unused time is not refunded.
05How far ahead should we book?
At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.
06Which languages can I book for counseling in the office?
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese and Arabic are the easiest to schedule near most offices, and Burmese needs more notice.
