Calls we interpret
Phone does not replace the evaluation itself. Clinicians book a phone interpreter for the calls around it.
A relative often knows how the symptoms started and how the patient has been at home. The clinician calls the relative, and the interpreter interprets in both directions in the relative's language.
After an evaluation, the clinician may call the patient with a few questions about medicines or symptoms. Book the time the clinician plans, since the interpreter is reserved for it.
The clinic calls to set up the evaluation, explain what will happen and ask about consent and forms. Each part is interpreted for the patient or the family.
Psychiatric calls
A phone call is used for the parts of an evaluation that need only conversation, such as taking the history from a relative who lives elsewhere, or a follow-up with the patient after the main visit. It is also used when the patient has no video, and the interpreter can dial in from anywhere in the US. The evaluation itself is usually held in person or by video.

The clinician dials in at the booked time, asks the questions and leads the call. The patient answers about themselves from any phone, and a relative answers about how the patient has been. When both need to be on the call, the interpreter adds the second person once everyone is connected. The interpreter dials in from wherever they work.
On the phone the clinician cannot see the patient, so the exact words count even more. The interpreter says what the patient or the relative says in the first person, as it was said, including answers that are confused or incomplete, and does not smooth them over. The clinician's questions go back in full. The interpreter takes no side, treats the call as confidential, and neither advises nor gives opinions.
Clinician and patient
Call with a relative
A history call with a relative is a separate call from the patient's own evaluation. Book it as its own session in the relative's language, and say in the notes how the relative knows the patient. The clinician asks a question and pauses, the interpreter says it to the relative, and the relative's answer is interpreted for the clinician.
Sou plas, pa videyo oswa pa telefòn
Phone works for history and follow-up calls. For the evaluation itself, choose video or an interpreter in the room.

Book an interpreter in the room for an evaluation in a clinic, on a hospital unit or at the examiner's office.
Entèpretasyon sou plas pou evalyasyon sikyatrik
Video fits the evaluation itself, when the clinician wants to see the patient and the two are in different places.
Entèpretasyon a distans pa videyo pou evalyasyon sikyatrik
Phone fits the history call with a relative and the short follow-up, and a patient who cannot use video.

FAQ
Sa yo nou tande pi souvan, reponn pa ekip dispatch ak jesyon pwojè nou yo.
Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?
No. Anyone can dial in from any phone with the number and the access code from the confirmation. You share both with the patient or the relative.
The clinician decides. If the clinician wants to see the patient, book video or an interpreter in the room instead.
Yes. We can change the booking to a video session, depending on whether the interpreter is free at that time.
Yes. The interpreter works under an NDA, and a BAA can be arranged for healthcare customers. Nothing is recorded unless you ask.
You pay for the time you book, and the total is shown before payment. A history call can run long, so book the length the clinician plans, because time left unused is not refunded.
70 languages, always with English on one side. A relative may speak a different language from the patient, so tell us which language the call is in. Spanish, Mandarin and Russian are the easiest to schedule, and Pashto needs more notice.
