Phone (OPI)
At the booked time you and the witness dial in from any phone. The interpreter joins the same line and stays on it for the time you booked.
Any phone, no app or link needed
The price shows before you book. Every session is covered by an NDA; clinical sessions are handled in line with HIPAA.
Book an interpreterSituations for phone
A call reaches a witness without a visit or a link to send. Attorneys and investigators book a phone interpreter in the three situations below.
An attorney or an investigator calls a witness for the first time to explain who they are and to ask for an interview. The interpreter interprets the whole introduction and the witness's answer, so the witness understands who is calling.
After the main interview, a few details often need checking, such as a date, a name or an address. A short call settles them, and the interpreter interprets each question and each answer in full.
A witness who lives in another state can be interviewed without anyone traveling. Everyone dials in from where they are, and the interpreter dials in from anywhere in the country.
Witness phone calls
Phone is used when the interviewer needs to hear the witness and nothing has to be shown. A witness may be reached by phone before agreeing to a longer interview, or when they live too far for a visit. The attorney or investigator books a time, and everyone dials in at that time. If the interview turns out to need video, we can change the booking, subject to the interpreter's availability.

The interviewer, an attorney or an investigator, asks the questions, and the witness answers in their own words. A paralegal may listen in to take notes. No oath is taken and there is no court reporter. The interpreter dials in too, and once everyone is on the line the interpreter can add a third party to the call.
On a call, the interviewer has only the witness's voice to work with. The interviewer asks a part and pauses, and the interpreter interprets it in the first person and in full, so the notes show what the witness said and not a summary of it. The interpreter is neutral, keeps the call confidential, and does not prompt the witness or comment on the answers.
Each turn on the call
Send the witness the dial-in number, the access code and the call time ahead. Say who will be on the call, and that an interpreter will be on the line. The witness needs only a phone, and no app is needed.
On-site, video or phone
Phone works when the witness only needs to be heard. Choose video or an interpreter in person when the interviewer needs more.

Book an interpreter in person for a long interview, or when you are visiting the witness anyway.
On-Site Interpretation for Witness Interviews
Video is better when the interviewer wants to see the witness, or to go through a photo or a document together.
Video-Remote Interpretation for Witness Interviews
Phone fits a first call or a short follow-up, when the interviewer needs only to hear the witness.

What you receive
Every file and session is covered by an NDA and sent over an encrypted connection. Clinical matters are handled in line with HIPAA.
If you also need translations
Nothing can be shown on a call, so papers the witness will be asked about should be translated and sent ahead.
Statements, letters and messages in the witness's language, translated into English before the call so you can ask about them.
Medical records from abroad, translated before the call in an injury case.
Pay records and contracts for employment and commercial cases, translated so the questions can point to them.
FAQ
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
No. You arrange the call with the witness and send the dial-in details, and the interpreter joins the line at the booked time.
Yes. Everyone dials in from any phone, so the interviewer, the witness and the interpreter can each be in a different place.
The interpreter works under an NDA, and connections are encrypted. Whether to record the call is up to the interviewer, and Texliff does not record unless asked.
Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.
The time you book sets the price, and the total shows before you pay. Witnesses tell their stories at length, so book more time than the questions alone suggest.
70 languages. Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese and French are the easiest to schedule, and Burmese or Pashto would need more notice.
By language
One page per language, with the varieties we confirm at booking, the register the session needs and where that language is booked most.
