Typical Pendjabi bookings
When phone works
Whether a hearing may be held by phone is the court's decision. Parties and attorneys book a phone interpreter around a court hearing in the situations below.
Some courts hold status conferences by telephone, with the judge, the attorneys and the party on one line. The interpreter dials in to that line and interprets for your client in full, in both directions.
Attorneys call the client before a hearing to explain what will happen, and after it to explain the result. Book each call on its own, with the dial-in number from your confirmation.
Where the court allows a short appearance by phone, the interpreter dials in for the booked time. Tell us the court and the proceeding, since the court sets which appearances may be made by phone.
Telephone hearings
Some courts allow short hearings, such as status conferences, to be held by telephone, and the judge or the court's rules decide which ones. Everyone dials in from any phone to a call-in number the court gives, with no app or link. Phone also reaches languages with few interpreters nearby, since the interpreter can dial in from anywhere in the US.

The judge leads the hearing and rules on the case. Each attorney speaks for a client, and the party, or a witness, replies when the judge asks a question. The clerk keeps the court's record, and everyone joins from wherever they are. When one of them speaks another language, an interpreter dials in to the same call and interprets for that person.
The judge, the attorneys and your client cannot see each other on a phone line, so the interpreter keeps one person speaking at a time. Each speaker pauses, and the interpreter interprets that part for your client in full. Your client's answers are interpreted into English as they were said. The interpreter takes no side, explains no rulings and keeps the call confidential.
On the phone
The court gives the call-in number and access code for the hearing. Add them to your booking so the interpreter dials in to the right line. For a call with your client, use the number and code in your confirmation.
Sou plas, pa videyo oswa pa telefòn
Phone is for hearings the court holds by telephone and for the calls around any hearing. The cases below fit the other settings better.

Book an interpreter at the courthouse when your client attends the hearing in person.
Entèpretasyon sou plas pou odyans tribinal
Video is the better choice when the court holds the hearing on a link, or when the judge will look at documents on screen.
Entèpretasyon a distans pa videyo pou odyans tribinal
Phone fits a hearing the court holds by telephone, and the calls with your client around it.

Birth and marriage certificates and divorce records for custody and support cases, translated into English.
Financial statements and contracts for small claims and civil hearings.

Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?
Yes, when the court holds the hearing by telephone or lets a party appear by phone. Name the court and the proceeding in the quote form.
Yes. After everyone has dialed in, the interpreter can bring in one more person, such as a client who calls from a different number.
Tell us, and we can change the booking to a video session if the interpreter is available.
Sessions are not recorded unless you ask, and the court keeps its own record of the hearing.
Phone sessions are priced by the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. Unused time is not refunded, so book the time the court set aside and some extra for the calls with your client.
