Calls we interpret

Phone interpreters for IME calls about history, intake and follow-up questions

Our phone interpreters join the three kinds of calls below.

History interviews by phone

When the examiner takes the history by phone, the interpreter dials in and interprets one question and answer at a time. The claimant's answers go to the examiner in the first person.

Intake calls

The examiner's office or the insurer calls the claimant to confirm the exam. The interpreter interprets, so the claimant understands the date, the address and what the office asks for.

Follow-up questions

After the exam, the examiner may need one more answer for the report. A short call with the interpreter on the line lets the examiner ask for it.

Exam calls

What to know about phone calls for independent medical examinations with an interpreter

When phone is used

Phone is used for the parts of an independent medical examination that do not need the claimant in front of the doctor, such as intake, the history interview and follow-up questions, where the examiner chooses it. The physical exam is done in person. Phone is also the choice when the claimant has no video, or when no interpreter for the language works nearby, since the interpreter can dial in from anywhere.

Who is on the line

The examiner is chosen by the insurer or the defense side, and calls in to ask the questions. The claimant answers from any phone. The claimant's attorney or another observer may listen in where the rules allow it. The interpreter dials in too and can add a third party once everyone is on the line.

The interpreter's role

Because the claimant and the examiner cannot see each other, pauses mark each turn. The examiner asks one question and stops, the interpreter interprets it into the claimant's language, and the answer goes back to the examiner in English, in the claimant's own words. The interpreter works for neither side, keeps what they hear confidential and gives no opinion about the answers.

Records before the call

A form or record the examiner will ask about should reach the claimant before the call, since nothing can be shown on a phone line. Add the claim number and the names of the treating doctors to the booking notes, and the interpreter has them in front of them during the call.

FAQ

Questions about phone interpreters for independent medical examinations

Sa yo nou tande pi souvan, reponn pa ekip dispatch ak jesyon pwojè nou yo.

Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?

01How does the claimant join the call?

The claimant dials the number from the confirmation and enters the access code, from any phone, with no app or link.

02Can documents be shown on a phone call?

No. A phone call has no screen, so send them through the booking notes, or ask us to change the booking to video, subject to the interpreter's availability.

03Can the intake call and the history call be booked on different days?

Yes. Each call is its own booking with its own date and start time, so book them one by one.

04Is the call recorded?

We do not record calls unless you ask, and an NDA applies to every session. Any recording of the history is up to the examiner.

05How is a phone call priced?

By the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. Unused time is not refunded, so book the time the examiner expects for the history, with a little extra.

06Which languages can we book for an exam call?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Haitian Creole, French and Tagalog are the easiest to schedule by phone, and rare languages need more notice.

07Èske entèprèt Bilga Texliff yo sètifye?

Wi. Entèprèt bilga ki sètifye pou tribinal epi ki gen kalifikasyon medikal yo asiyen nan zafè legal ak klinik — Sètifikasyon Entèprèt Tribinal Federal, lis tribinal eta yo, CCHI / NBCMI pou medikal. Pou anviwònman kominote, edikasyon ak antrepriz nou bay entèprèt ki resevwa fòmasyon pwofesyonèl ki matche ak sijè a.
