Typical Swayili bookings
Calls we interpret
Phone fits calls made of questions and answers. Four of them come up at different points in a claim.
The claimant or policyholder reports the loss and gives the date, the place and the people involved. The adjuster needs those details exactly, so names, dates and numbers are interpreted in full.
The adjuster tells the claimant where the claim stands and what is still needed. A status call can be short, and the claimant can ask about the next step.
When the insurer accepts or denies a claim, or makes a settlement offer, the adjuster explains it to the claimant by phone. The interpreter interprets the explanation and the claimant's questions, without adding advice.
The adjuster asks for photos, receipts or forms. The interpreter interprets the request and the claimant's answer about what they have and how they can send it.
Claim calls by phone
Phone suits claim calls that are questions and answers, such as reporting a loss, checking on progress or hearing a decision. The adjuster and the claimant call in from wherever they are, and the interpreter dials in from anywhere in the US, which helps when no interpreter for the language works near the claimant. Nobody can look at a photo or a form during the call, so a step that needs documents is better by video.

The adjuster leads the call, and the claimant or policyholder answers and asks questions. A public adjuster, an attorney or a family member can listen in or speak for the claimant. The interpreter dials in to the same line and can add another person once everyone is on it.
The interpreter makes the call as clear as it would be in one language. Everything is heard and nothing is seen, so each speaker says a short part and pauses. The interpreter then says that part in the other language, in the first person, so each side hears the other's own words. The interpreter is neutral, keeps the call confidential, and does not comment on the claim or the offer.
The adjuster's part
The claimant's answer
Amounts and dates are easy to mishear without a page in front of you. Put the claim number, the names involved and any amounts the adjuster plans to mention in the booking notes, so the interpreter reads them before the call. If the call turns out to need photos or forms on screen, we can change the booking to video, subject to the interpreter's availability.
Sou plas, pa videyo oswa pa telefòn
Phone needs no setup, but nobody can see a photo or a form. Choose by what the call has to show.

Book an interpreter in person for a visit to damaged property, or for a claimant who is not comfortable on a phone or video call.
Entèpretasyon sou plas pou reklamasyon asirans
Video is better when the adjuster and the claimant go through photos, estimates or forms together.
Entèpretasyon a distans pa videyo pou reklamasyon asirans
Phone fits a first report, a status update or a decision that the adjuster explains in words.

Chak fichye ak chak sesyon kouvri anba yon NDA epi voye sou yon koneksyon chifre. Dosye klinik yo trete an akò ak HIPAA.
Si ou bezwen tradiksyon tou
Nothing can be shown on a phone call, so documents in another language are better translated and sent to the adjuster first.
Medical records, translated and sent ahead so the adjuster reads the treatment history before the call.
Sworn statements from the claimant, translated and sent ahead so the adjuster can ask about them.
Financial statements and contracts for a business claim, translated before the adjuster asks about the figures.

Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?
At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.
Yes. A recorded statement is a separate, formal step, so book it as its own session and say in the notes that the adjuster will record it.
By the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. A call with an interpreter takes longer than one in English, so book more time than the same call would need in English.
No. Each language needs its own interpreter and its own booking.
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, French and Vietnamese are among the easiest to schedule, and rare languages such as Pashto need more notice.
