Who gives statements

Phone interpreters for recorded statements from policyholders, claimants, witnesses and injured workers

Anyone who can say what happened may give a recorded statement. Four kinds of people an adjuster calls are listed below.

Policyholders

The insured person describes a loss to their own insurer, such as an accident, a theft or damage at home. Each question and answer is interpreted, so the recording holds the policyholder's own words.

Claimants

A person who makes a claim under someone else's policy gives a statement about the injury or the damage. The adjuster asks about dates and places, and the interpreter interprets in the first person.

Witnesses

A passenger, a neighbor or a bystander may be asked what they saw. Witnesses are often reached wherever they live, including another state, so the phone is the practical choice.

Injured workers

After an injury at work, the adjuster asks the worker to describe the job and the accident. The interpreter interprets the questions about the job and the injury in full.

Statements by phone

What to know about recorded statements by phone with an interpreter

When phone is used

Most recorded statements are taken by phone. The adjuster records on their own line, and the interpreter dials in to that line at the booked time. Phone is also chosen when the person lives far away or speaks a language with no interpreter nearby, because our interpreters dial in from anywhere in the US. A recorded statement is not given under oath.

Who is on the line

The adjuster or investigator asks the questions and records the call. The insured person, the claimant or a witness answers them. The interpreter joins the same line, and an attorney can be added to the call once everyone is on it. The recording names the interpreter before the first question.

The interpreter's role

After the interpreter is identified on the recording, every question goes into the person's language and every answer into English, in the first person. A recording and any transcript made from it then hold the person's own words. The interpreter is neutral, keeps the call confidential, and does not shorten an answer or suggest what to say.

Names and spelling

A statement is full of names, dates, places and amounts, and a phone line gives the interpreter nothing to read. Send the claim number, the spelling of names and the places the adjuster will ask about in the booking notes, so the interpreter can say them correctly on the recording.

Choosing between phone, video and on-site for a recorded statement

Phone is the usual way to take a recorded statement. Another setting is better when something has to be shown or someone has to be met.

FAQ

Questions about phone interpreters for recorded statements

Sa yo nou tande pi souvan, reponn pa ekip dispatch ak jesyon pwojè nou yo.

Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?

01Do we use the adjuster's line or the dial-in number in the confirmation?

If the adjuster records on their own line, add its number and any access code to the booking notes, and the interpreter joins it. Otherwise use the dial-in number and access code in your confirmation.

02Is a recorded statement given under oath?

No. A statement under oath is an examination under oath, which is a separate session with its own booking.

03What if the call turns out to need photos or forms on screen?

We can change the booking to a video session, subject to the interpreter's availability.

04How is a phone statement priced?

By the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book more time than the same statement would take in English, so the call does not end in the middle of an answer.

05Does the person giving the statement need an app?

No. Any phone works, with no app or link.

06Which languages do you interpret by phone?

70 languages. Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic and French are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages need more notice.

07Èske entèprèt Ouzbèk Texliff yo sètifye?

Wi. Entèprèt ouzbèk ki sètifye pou tribinal epi ki gen kalifikasyon medikal yo asiyen nan zafè legal ak klinik — Sètifikasyon Entèprèt Tribinal Federal, lis tribinal eta yo, CCHI / NBCMI pou medikal.
