Book an interpreterExams by video
Whether an exam can be held by video is up to the examiner or the agency. Below are the kinds that are held remotely when it is allowed.
A psychologist interviews the claimant about mood, memory and daily life, and some examiners hold this part by video. The interpreter interprets the questions and the claimant's answers in full.
After the main exam, the examiner may need more history or a clarification from the claimant. A short video interview with an interpreter saves a second trip to the clinic.
Consultative exams for Social Security claims and compensation exams for VA claims are scheduled by the office that carries them out. The office that schedules the exam books the interpreter and adds the claim reference to the notes.
Insurers ask for evaluations of people who claim long-term disability benefits. The insurer or the examiner's office books the interpreter and sends the platform link, and the claim reference goes in the booking notes.
Remote evaluations
A disability evaluation is held by video only when the examiner or the agency allows it, and a physical exam still happens in person. Interviews and psychological evaluations are the usual ones held remotely, for example when the claimant lives far from the clinic. The clinic or agency that schedules the exam sends the link. The interpreter joins as a guest from anywhere in the US, which helps when no interpreter for the language works near the examiner.

The examiner, a doctor, a psychologist or a therapist, asks about the claimant's condition, work history and daily activities. The claimant answers and describes how the condition affects daily life. Staff at the clinic or agency set up the exam and send the link. The interpreter joins for the language only, and interprets for both sides.
The exam helps decide whether a claim for benefits is approved, so the examiner needs the claimant's own words. The interpreter says the claimant's answers in the first person, in full and without adding anything, and interprets every question for the claimant. The interpreter works for neither the claimant nor the agency, keeps the exam confidential, and gives no opinions about the condition.
Examiner and claimant
Ask which platform the examiner uses, and add the link, the examiner's name and the claim reference to the booking. The interpreter joins the link as a guest. Each question is interpreted for the claimant, and the answer comes back in English before the examiner asks the next one. If the examiner does not accept video, book an on-site interpreter instead.
On-site, video or phone
Video fits the interview parts of a disability claim. Anything physical needs another setting.

Book an interpreter in the room for a physical exam, a functional capacity test or any exam the examiner holds in person.
On-Site Interpretation for Disability Evaluations
Video fits a psychological evaluation or a follow-up interview when the examiner allows it, and the claimant lives far from the clinic.

Phone fits the calls before and after the exam, since nothing needs to be seen on them.

FAQ
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
Yes. Paste the examiner's link into the booking and the interpreter joins as a guest. If the examiner has no link for guests, we make a Texliff room link and put it in your project.
A relative should not interpret in a disability evaluation, because the examiner needs the claimant's own words and a neutral interpreter. Book a medically credentialed interpreter instead.
The examiner decides who is on the call. Tell the examiner if a relative will be there, and book the interpreter for the claimant as usual.
You pay per booked hour, and the total appears before you pay. Book the time the examiner has set aside, since unused time is not refunded.
At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Arabic and Russian are among the easiest to schedule, and rarer languages need more notice.
