Company phone calls

What to know about phone interpreters at a company

When phone is used

A company books a phone interpreter for a call that is short and does not need anyone to look at a document, such as an order follow-up or a check-in with an employee in the field. Phone also works for a person who has no video, and for a language with no interpreter nearby, because the interpreter can dial in from anywhere.

Who is on the line

Two sides are on the line. A manager, supervisor or HR staff member speaks for the company, and a supplier, customer or employee speaks another language. For a briefing, a trainer speaks to a group of employees who dial in from their own locations. The number in the confirmation is the one everyone dials, and the interpreter joins them there.

The interpreter's role

Without a picture, the call runs by turns. One person says a part and pauses, and the interpreter interprets it for the other side before the next person speaks. Figures and dates are interpreted exactly as spoken. The interpreter stays neutral, treats what they hear as confidential and leaves advice and opinions to the people on the call.

Numbers and documents

Send the order, the draft or the slides to everyone before the call, so each person has the same page in front of them. Read figures, dates and part numbers slowly, and put the names of the people on the call in the booking notes.

FAQ

Questions about phone interpreters for company calls

Sa yo nou tande pi souvan, reponn pa ekip dispatch ak jesyon pwojè nou yo.

Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?

01How does the other side get the dial-in number?

The number and the access code are in your confirmation, in the dashboard and by email. Forward them to the supplier, the customer or the employee.

02What if the call turns out to need a screen?

If the call needs a draft or slides on screen, ask us to switch the booking to video. It depends on the interpreter's availability for that time.

03Can an employee in the field join from a mobile phone?

Yes. Anyone can dial in from any phone, so an employee at a remote site joins with the number and the access code.

04How is a phone call priced?

By the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book a little longer than the call would take in English, because the call runs by turns, and unused time is not refunded.

05Can the interpreter add someone to the call after it starts?

Once everyone is on the line, the interpreter can add a third party, for example a colleague at another site.

06Ki lang nou kouvri pa telefòn?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Portuguese and Arabic are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages such as Burmese or Pashto need more notice.
