Calls around the trial

Phone interpreters for trial calls about witness preparation, client updates and scheduling

Much of the work around a trial happens in calls between court days. Our phone interpreters join the calls below most often.

Preparasyon temwen

Attorneys call a witness to go over what to expect on the stand. The interpreter interprets the whole call, in both directions, so the witness hears each question in their own language.

Client updates

At the end of a court day, attorneys call the client to explain what happened and what comes next. Book that call for the evening, with the dial-in number and access code from your confirmation.

Scheduling witnesses

Before a witness is called, someone has to confirm the day and the time with them. Phone is enough for that call, and you can add the witness to the line once the interpreter has dialed in.

Calls during trial

What to know about phone calls with an interpreter during a trial

When phone is used

The trial itself takes place in court, with the interpreter in the courtroom or on the court's video link. The work between court days is done by phone, because nobody has to see a document and everyone can join from wherever they are. A witness who speaks a language with few interpreters nearby can still be reached, because the interpreter dials in from anywhere.

Who is on the line

On a witness call, the attorney prepares the witness to testify, and the interpreter dials in too. On a client update, the attorney tells the client what happened in court in the same way. The interpreter can add a third party to the call once everyone is on the line, for example a witness who calls from a different number.

The interpreter's role

Each speaker pauses, and the interpreter then interprets that part in full, so the witness or client follows the call as an English speaker would. In witness preparation the interpreter does not coach or suggest answers, and interprets only what the attorney and the witness say. The interpreter is neutral and keeps the call confidential.

One call at a time

Each call is its own booking, with its own time and its own confirmation. Say what the call is for when you book, such as witness preparation or a client update, and add the case name and the witness's name to the notes so the interpreter knows the terms. A call that goes through a long list of exhibits needs more time than a scheduling call.

Sou plas, pa videyo oswa pa telefòn

Choosing between phone, video and on-site for a trial

Phone is for the work between court days. The proceeding itself is held where the court says.

  • Sou plas

Book an interpreter at the courthouse for testimony and for conversations at counsel table.

    Entèpretasyon sou plas pou pwosè
  • Videyo (VRI)

Video is better for a longer preparation session with documents on screen, and for a witness who testifies remotely.

Entèpretasyon a distans pa videyo pou pwosè
  • Telefòn (OPI)

Phone fits short calls with a witness or your client between court days, when nothing has to be shown.

FAQ

Questions about phone interpreters for trial calls

Sa yo nou tande pi souvan, reponn pa ekip dispatch ak jesyon pwojè nou yo.

Ou pa jwenn sa w ap chèche a?

01Can the same interpreter join every call during the trial?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

02Does the witness need an app or a smartphone?

No. Everyone dials in from any phone with the number and access code in your confirmation, and no app or link is needed.

03Is a call with a witness confidential?

Every session is covered by an NDA, connections are encrypted, and calls are not recorded unless you ask.

04What if a call turns out to need documents on screen?

A video session can replace the call, subject to the interpreter's availability. Add your meeting link to the booking, or we create a Texliff room link.

05How is a call priced?

Each call is priced by the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. Each question and answer is said twice, and unused time is not refunded, so give a witness preparation call extra time.

06Which languages do you interpret for trial calls?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Arabic, Haitian Creole and Tagalog are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages need more notice.

07Èske entèprèt Italyen Texliff yo sètifye?

Wi. Entèprèt italyen ki sètifye pou tribinal epi ki gen kalifikasyon medikal yo asiyen nan zafè legal ak klinik — Sètifikasyon Entèprèt Tribinal Federal, lis tribinal eta yo, CCHI / NBCMI pou medikal. Pou anviwònman kominote, edikasyon ak antrepriz nou bay entèprèt ki resevwa fòmasyon pwofesyonèl ki matche ak sijè a.
