Companies hold meetings by video when the people involved work at different sites, in different cities or in different countries. A video call also works when no interpreter for the language lives near the office, because the interpreter joins from anywhere in the US. A company meeting has a speaker on each side. Managers, supervisors or HR staff speak for the company, and the employees, suppliers or customers who speak another language answer for themselves. In a negotiation, each team may bring an attorney, and in a training, a trainer leads a group of employees. The interpreter joins the call as one more participant.
The interpreter makes the communication as clear as it would be if everyone spoke one language. Whatever a manager, a supplier or an employee says is interpreted in full, in both directions, including figures, dates and names. The interpreter stays neutral between the sides, keeps what they hear confidential, and adds no advice, opinions or explanations of their own.
