Interview locations

On-site interpreters for witness interviews at homes, workplaces and law offices

The interpreter reports to the address in the booking. Interviews are held in the three places below, and each needs different details.

The witness's home

A witness who cannot come to an office may agree to talk at home. The interpreter reports to that one address, so put the street, the unit number and the parking in the notes.

A workplace

Co-workers and supervisors are interviewed at the workplace. Ask the site how visitors check in, and put the entrance and the name of the person who will meet the interpreter in the notes.

Your law office

A witness who can travel can be interviewed in your own conference room, where the case file is at hand. Give us the suite and the room, and the interpreter sits with the witness there.

In-person interviews

What to know about in-person witness interviews with an interpreter

When you meet in person

An interviewer who wants to sit with the witness books the interpreter to come to the same address. The interview is informal and comes before a deposition or a trial, so it may be held at the witness's home, at work or at an office. In person is also the choice when the witness has no device for a video call. Our dispatcher looks for interpreters closest to the address first.

Who takes part

The interviewer, an attorney or an investigator, asks the questions, and the witness tells what they saw or heard. A paralegal may come along to write down what is said. No oath is taken and no court reporter is present. The interpreter sits with the witness, and the interviewer speaks to the witness directly.

The interpreter's role

Each question the interviewer asks is interpreted into the witness's language, and each answer into English, in full. The interpreter speaks in the first person, so what the interviewer writes down is what the witness said. The interpreter is neutral, keeps the interview confidential, and does not prompt the witness, suggest an answer or comment on one.

One address per booking

The interpreter stays at the address in the booking. A second interview at another address, such as a co-worker at the workplace after a witness at home, is a second booking. Book each interview for its own hours, because unused time is not refunded.

On-site, video or phone

Choosing between on-site, video and phone for a witness interview

An interpreter in person suits an interview held at the witness's place. Video and phone fit the cases below.

FAQ

Questions about on-site interpreters for witness interviews

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Do you send interpreters to witnesses outside large cities?

Yes. We send interpreters to all 50 states. They are most numerous in large metro areas, and outside them we still send one, with more notice.

02What if the interview has to move to another day?

Cancellation is in writing. You get a full refund more than seven days before, 75% between seven days and 48 hours before, and no refund in the last 48 hours before the interview.

03Can we ask for the same interpreter at a follow-up interview?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

04How is an in-person interview priced?

The price is by the hour for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book more time than the questions alone suggest, because the witness's answers are interpreted in full.

05How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.

06Which languages can you interpret for witness interviews?

70 languages. Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Korean and Tagalog are the easiest to schedule near large cities, and rare languages need more notice.

07Are your Urdu interpreters certified?

Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Urdu interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
