Meetings we interpret
Video interpreters for HR meetings, from investigations to performance reviews and accommodation requests
Employers book a video interpreter for these four kinds of HR meetings. The notes you add to the booking reach the interpreter before the meeting starts.
Investigation interviews
HR interviews the employee who raised a concern, the employee named in it, and any witnesses. Each interview can be its own session, and the interpreter keeps what they hear confidential.
Disciplinary meetings
HR and the manager explain the reason for a warning or another action, and the employee responds. Send the written notice with the booking, so the interpreter knows the terms before the meeting.
Performance reviews
A manager goes over goals, results and next steps with an employee who speaks another language. The names of the sections on your review form help the interpreter prepare.
Accommodation requests
HR and the employee talk through a request for time off, a schedule change or a change in duties. The employee may describe a health condition, so the interpreter keeps it confidential.
HR meetings by video
What to know about HR meetings by video with an interpreter
When video is used
HR meetings are usually held in person, in the HR office or a private room. They are held by video when the employee works at another site or from home, or when no interpreter for the language works near the employee. One meeting link is shared, and everyone joins from their own location, with the interpreter as a guest.
Who takes part
HR opens the call, leads it and explains the reason for the meeting. The employee answers HR's questions and asks their own. A manager joins when the meeting is about the employee's work. Some meetings also have a union representative or a witness, who join the same link from wherever they are. The interpreter joins as a guest and interprets for everyone who speaks.

The interpreter's role
The interpreter makes the meeting as clear for the employee as it is for everyone who speaks English. Each speaker talks in short parts, and the interpreter interprets every part in full, in both directions. The interpreter is neutral, working for neither HR nor the employee, and gives no advice or opinions.
Notes, then meeting

Before the meeting
Add the names of everyone attending to the booking notes, with the written notice or policy the meeting is about and any terms HR will use. The interpreter reads the notes first and prepares those terms. HR may write up the meeting afterward, and because the interpreter speaks in the first person, the write-up holds the employee's own words. Texliff does not record the session unless you ask.
On-site, video or phone
Choosing between video, on-site and phone for an HR meeting
Video suits an HR meeting when the people involved are in different places. The cases below call for on-site or phone.
On-site
Book an interpreter in the room for a disciplinary meeting or an investigation interview that HR holds in person.
Enter the date, the start time, the platform and the employee's language. The price for the booked hours shows right away.
Place your order
Pay online to confirm. The booking opens in your dashboard, where you add the meeting link and notes such as the names of those attending and the policy involved.
Dispatcher runs and assigns an interpreter
Our dispatcher assigns an interpreter who has interpreted HR meetings before, and confirms the name to you before the meeting.
Join your session
The interpreter joins your meeting as a guest. HR starts as usual, and the interpreter interprets until the booked hours end.
What you receive
The interpreter's name, sent before the meeting starts.
A meeting link in the project, either yours or a Texliff room that opens in the browser.
A booking confirmation in the dashboard, with a copy by email.
Every file and session is covered by an NDA and sent over an encrypted connection. Clinical matters are handled in line with HIPAA.
Questions about video interpreters for HR meetings
The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.
Can't find it here?
01Can the employee join without installing anything?
Yes. The Texliff room opens in the browser with no install, and we create the link and add it to your project. The interpreter can also join your own Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet link as a guest.
02Can we interview two employees who speak the same language in one booking?
Yes. Book enough hours for both interviews and run them one after the other on the same link. An employee who speaks a different language needs a separate booking.
03Can a union representative or a witness join from another location?
Yes. Everyone joins the same link from wherever they are, and the interpreter interprets for each person who speaks. Add their names to the booking notes.
04What if the employee has no video or a weak connection?
Book a phone session for that meeting. Everyone dials in to the number in your confirmation from any phone.
05How is an HR meeting by video priced?
Video sessions are priced by the hour for the hours you book, with the total shown before you pay. Book time for the whole meeting, because every statement is interpreted in full and unused time is not refunded.
06Which languages can you interpret in HR meetings?
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Korean, Arabic and Tagalog are the easiest to schedule. A rare language such as Burmese needs more notice.
07Are your Hebrew interpreters certified?
Yes. Court-certified and medically credentialed Hebrew interpreters are assigned to legal and clinical matters — Federal Court Interpreter Certification, state court rosters, CCHI / NBCMI for medical. For community, educational and corporate settings we assign professionally trained interpreters matched to the subject.
