Kinds of claims
Adjusters book a video interpreter when the claimant speaks another language and the claim is worked from a desk. Add the claim number and the type of loss to the notes, and they reach the interpreter before the call.
Adjusters talk to drivers, passengers and vehicle owners about how an accident happened and what damage the car has. The interpreter interprets the questions and the answers in full, including dates, places and the names of the other drivers.
The owner or tenant tells the adjuster what a fire, storm or leak damaged and what was lost, item by item. The interpreter interprets each item in full, including quantities and dates.
An injured worker explains the job, the injury and the treatment to the adjuster or the claims examiner. Medical terms come up often, so a list of the providers in the file helps the interpreter prepare.
A person who was hurt or lost property makes a claim against a policyholder. The adjuster talks to both, and the interpreter works for whichever one speaks another language.
Video claim calls
A claim is often worked remotely, with the adjuster in an office and the claimant at home. Video is chosen when both want to look at photos, estimates or a damaged item together. It is also chosen when the claimant lives far from the adjuster, or speaks a language with no interpreter nearby, since our interpreters join from anywhere in the US. The adjuster sends the meeting link, or you add one to the booking.
The adjuster asks questions about the loss and the claim, and the claimant or policyholder answers. A public adjuster or an attorney sometimes joins to speak for the claimant. Everyone keeps speaking in their own language, and the interpreter interprets each part for the other side.
The interpreter is there so the call is as clear as it would be in one language. Each question goes into the claimant's language and each answer into English, in full and in the first person. The speaker pauses after each part, and the interpreter then says it. The interpreter is neutral, keeps what they hear confidential, and does not explain a policy or give an opinion on the claim.

Share the photos, the repair estimate or the proof of loss on screen while you talk about them, so the claimant and the adjuster look at the same page. For a claim with many items, add a list of them to the booking notes, and it reaches the interpreter before the call.
