Families enroll a child at the place the district sends them to. Below are the places our interpreters go, and what to tell us about each one when you book.
School front offices
Many schools enroll new students at the front office. Tell us which entrance to use and where visitors check in, so the interpreter finds the right desk.
District welcome centers
Some districts enroll new families at a central welcome or enrollment center instead of at the school. Book the interpreter for the center's address, because that is where the family goes.
Meetings with ESL staff
ESL or newcomer staff may sit in on the enrollment meeting. Put their names in the booking notes, so the interpreter knows who will be at the table.

What to know about in-person enrollment meetings with an interpreter
Enrollment in the office
Enrollment is usually done in person, at a school office or a district center, because the family brings the child's papers and staff check them while the parent is there. The interpreter comes to the same desk or room and sits with the family. A parent can hand over a paper and ask about it on the spot. A district center works the same way as a school office, and the interpreter comes to whichever address you book.
Who takes part
The registrar or enrollment staff ask for the child's details and go through the forms, such as the home language survey and the emergency contacts. The parent or guardian answers, hands over records and asks about the school. ESL or newcomer staff may join, and the student sometimes sits in too. The interpreter takes the seat next to the parent.

The interpreter's role
The interpreter's job is to give the parent the same understanding of the forms and the school's rules that an English-speaking parent has. Each question and explanation from staff goes to the parent in full, and each answer and question from the parent goes back to staff in full. The interpreter stays neutral, keeps the meeting confidential and does not advise the family on what to write or decide.

Forms and records
Ask the family to bring the child's records, such as immunization records and proof of residence, and put the list in the booking notes. Staff and the parent may go through a record together, and the interpreter interprets what each of them says about it. 01Does the school have to arrange an interpreter?
Schools that receive federal funds must give language help to parents who need it. An interpreter booked here sits in the meeting, so the parent can ask questions as each form is filled in.
02Can one interpreter see several families on one day?
Yes, for families who speak the same language. Book the hours the appointments run, and list the times and the family names in the booking notes. Another language needs its own booking.
03What does the front desk need to know about the interpreter?
We send the interpreter's name before the day, so you can give it to the front desk. Put the parking details in the booking notes.
04How is an enrollment meeting priced?
You pay by the hour for the hours you book, and the total shows first. Unused time is not refunded, so book time for each form and each child.
05How far ahead should we book?
At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.
06Which languages can we book for an enrollment office?
70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic and Korean interpreters are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages need more notice.
