Hacer bien el Vietnamita right

On-site interpreters for psychiatric evaluations in clinics, inpatient units and examiners' offices

Evaluations take place in clinics, hospitals and examiners' offices. Tell us which, and the interpreter reports to that one address.

Outpatient clinics

A scheduled evaluation takes place in an office or exam room at a clinic, and the interpreter sits with the patient throughout. Put the suite and the clinician's name in the notes.

Inpatient psychiatric units

On a unit, the interpreter interprets the evaluation and also any questions the nurses ask the patient. Name the unit and the person to ask for in the notes.

Court-ordered evaluations

Some evaluations are ordered by a court and take place at the examiner's office or at a facility. Tell us who orders it and where it is held, and the interpreter stays neutral.

Evaluations in person

What to know about in-person psychiatric evaluations with an interpreter

When the interpreter comes in person

Psychiatric evaluations are usually held in person, in a clinic office, on a hospital unit or at the examiner's office. The interpreter sits with the patient and reports to the one address you booked, so the booking should name the building and the unit. When a relative is asked to give the history, the relative joins in the room. Our dispatcher looks for interpreters closest to the address first.

Who takes part

The psychiatrist or psychologist asks the questions, forms the assessment and decides who stays in the room. The patient answers about symptoms, sleep, mood and daily life. On a hospital unit, a nurse may ask the patient questions as well. A relative may be asked to describe how the patient has been. The interpreter sits next to the patient, in the place the clinician chooses.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter lets the clinician and the patient communicate as they would in one language. The clinician needs to hear the patient as the patient speaks, so answers are said in the first person as they come, whether they are clear, confused or off the point, and are not corrected. Every question is interpreted in full. The interpreter works for neither side, keeps the evaluation confidential, and gives no advice or opinions of their own.

Units and check-in

Hospital units and court-ordered evaluations each have their own entry rules. Put the building, the unit, the identification steps and the contact person in the booking notes, so the facility can clear the interpreter by the name we send before the day. Once inside, the interpreter interprets for the clinician and for the nurse alike, and each answer is interpreted back after the question.

Presencial, por video o por teléfono

Choosing between on-site, video and phone for a psychiatric evaluation

Most evaluations are easiest to run with the interpreter next to the patient. Video and phone fit narrower cases.

Preguntas frecuentes

Questions about on-site interpreters for psychiatric evaluations

Las preguntas que escuchamos con más frecuencia, respondidas por nuestros equipos de despacho y gestión de proyectos.

¿No encuentra lo que busca?

01Do you send interpreters to hospitals in small towns?

Yes, we send interpreters in all 50 states. Large metro areas have the most interpreters, so a hospital or clinic in a small town needs more notice.

02Can the interpreter go onto an inpatient unit?

Yes, when the hospital allows the visit. Give us the unit and the contact person, and the interpreter's name reaches you before the day, so the unit can expect them.

03Can the same interpreter come to a second visit?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

04What happens if the evaluation is moved?

Cancellation is in writing. A full refund applies more than seven days before, 75% is refunded from seven days down to 48 hours before, and nothing is refunded closer than that.

05How is an in-person evaluation priced?

The rate is hourly, charged for the hours you book, and you see the total before paying. The interpreter is reserved for the whole booking, so book the period the clinician has set aside. Unused time is not refunded.

06How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.

07Which languages can I book for an evaluation in person?

70 languages. Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean and Russian are the easiest to schedule near most clinics, and a language like Pashto needs more notice.
