When phone works

Phone interpreters for immigration consultations, from first calls to document requests and case updates

Phone suits conversations where nobody needs to look at a form or a document. Attorneys and clients book a phone interpreter in the situations below.

First consultations

A person who has just contacted a firm describes their situation on a short call, and the attorney asks about it. The interpreter interprets the description and the questions in full.

Collecting documents

The attorney or a paralegal calls the client to ask for a missing paper, such as a certificate or a notice. The client says what they have and where it is, and the paper itself is sent separately.

Case updates

The attorney calls to tell the client what happened in the case and what comes next, such as a new notice or a date. A short call keeps the client informed without a visit.

What to know about phone immigration consultations with an interpreter

When phone is used

A consultation is held by phone when it is short and nobody needs to see a form. The attorney or the client arranges the call, and everyone dials in from where they are. Phone is also used when the client cannot join by video, or when no interpreter for the language works nearby. A long meeting over forms goes better by video or in person.

Who is on the line

The attorney and the client dial in to the same call, and a paralegal may join to take notes. The interpreter dials in too, and once everyone is on the line, the interpreter can add another person to the call. Anyone can join from any phone, with no app or link.

The interpreter's role

On a call nobody can see who is about to speak, so the speakers take turns. Each speaker pauses after a part, and the interpreter then interprets it in full into the other language. The interpreter is neutral, keeps the call confidential, and does not give advice or opinions of their own.

Before the call

Nothing can be shown during a call, so papers the attorney needs to read should reach the attorney before it starts. Put the client's name and the kind of case in the booking notes, so the interpreter can prepare the terms.

Presencial, por video o por teléfono

Choosing between phone, video and on-site for an immigration consultation

Phone saves setup, but nothing can be shown on a call. Choose by what the attorney and the client need to look at.

Preguntas frecuentes

Questions about phone interpreters for immigration consultations

Las preguntas que escuchamos con más frecuencia, respondidas por nuestros equipos de despacho y gestión de proyectos.

¿No encuentra lo que busca?

01Can the client talk to the same interpreter on every call?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

02Can the interpreter add a paralegal or a family member to the call?

Yes. Once everyone is on the line, the interpreter can add a third person to the call.

03What if the attorney needs to look at a form during the call?

We can change the booking to a video session, subject to the interpreter's availability.

04Is the call recorded?

Not unless you ask. Every session falls under an NDA, and connections are encrypted.

05How is a phone consultation priced?

The price is for the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. Book enough time for the whole call, because the interpreter is reserved for all of it and unused time is not refunded.

06Which languages can you interpret at immigration consultations by phone?

70 languages, into and out of English. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole and Arabic are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages such as Burmese or Pashto need more notice.
