Varieties

Calls schools place to families

Phone interpreters for schools for calls with parents about plans, records and schedules

A phone call fits the conversations that do not need a screen or a room. Each card with a link opens the page for that call by phone.

School phone calls

What to know about phone interpreters for school calls

When phone is used

Phone is used for conversations that do not need anyone to see a screen or a document. Staff and the parent dial in from wherever they are, and the parent needs no app, no link and no video. It also reaches a family when no interpreter for the language works near the school, because the interpreter can dial in from anywhere in the US.

Who is on the line

A teacher calls about how the child is doing, a counselor calls about a plan, and someone from the front office calls about a form or a missing document. The parent or guardian answers and asks about their child or the paper in front of them. The interpreter dials in too and stays on the line until the booking ends.

The interpreter's role

A call has no faces to read, so the interpreter waits until each person finishes and then interprets that part completely. A parent's question reaches the staff member as fully as the staff member's answer reaches the parent. The interpreter is neutral, keeps the call confidential, and does not advise the parent or comment on the school's decisions.

Before the call

A phone call shows nothing, so send any form, plan or report to the parent before the call, and add the child's name and the reason for the call to the booking notes. During the call, staff say one thing at a time and wait, so the parent can answer each part.

Presencial, por video o por teléfono

Choosing between phone, video and on-site for school calls

Phone is the simplest way to reach a parent. Choose video or on-site when a conversation needs more than a voice.

  • Presencial

Book an interpreter in the building for an IEP meeting, an evaluation meeting or an enrollment appointment when the family is coming to school.

    Interpretación presencial para escuelas
  • Video (VRI)

Video fits a meeting where staff show a plan or a report on screen, or where several staff join from different buildings.

Interpretación remota por video para escuelas
  • Teléfono (OPI)

Phone fits a follow-up, a scheduling call or a check-in, when nothing has to be shown to the parent.

Cómo funciona

How schools book a phone interpreter

Enter the date, start time, the family's language and the kind of call, such as a follow-up after an IEP meeting. The price for the booked time shows right away.

  2. Haga su pedido

Pay online to confirm. The booking opens in your dashboard with a dial-in number and an access code, and you can add notes such as the child's name and the reason for the call.

Our dispatcher assigns an interpreter who has interpreted school meetings before and confirms the name to you before the call.

  4. Únase a su sesión

At the booked time, staff and the parent dial in with the number and code. The interpreter stays on the line for the booked time.

Qué recibe

  • The interpreter's name, confirmed before the call.
  • A dial-in number and an access code to share with the parent.
  • A dashboard and email confirmation for each call, with the dial-in details in it.

If you also need documents translated for the family

Certified translations are ordered from the same account and arrive as a PDF. A phone call shows nothing, so documents a parent needs to discuss are best sent before the call.

Preguntas frecuentes

Questions from schools about phone interpreters

01Does the parent need an app or a link?

No. The parent dials the number in your confirmation from any phone and enters the access code.

02What if the parent does not answer?

The interpreter is reserved for the whole booked time, and unused time is not refunded. Agree on a time with the parent before you book.

03When is a phone call not enough for an IEP meeting?

When the team needs to go through a long report or draft page by page with the parent. Book video or an interpreter in the room for that meeting.

If the call needs a screen, tell us and we will move the booking to video when the interpreter is available.

05What does a call to a parent cost?

Phone is priced by the time you book, and you see the total before you pay. Book a little longer than you expect, so the call does not end while the parent is still asking questions.

06Which languages can we book for a call?

70 languages. Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Russian and Korean are among the easiest to schedule, and rare languages need more notice.
