When phone works

Phone interpreters for workers' compensation calls with the judge and the client

Phone interpreters are booked for the three situations below.

Conference calls with the judge

Some conferences are held by telephone, with the judge, both attorneys and the injured worker on one line. The interpreter dials in, and the worker follows the call in their own language.

Calls with the injured worker

The worker's attorney calls the client to go over a hearing date, a ruling or an offer. The interpreter interprets in both directions, and the client can ask questions in their own language.

Scheduling and paperwork calls

A call to confirm an address, collect a missing form or set a date can be short. A phone booking is priced by the time you book, so a short call is a short booking.

Case calls

What to know about workers' compensation calls with an interpreter

When phone is used

Phone is used for conference calls and for calls between the attorney and the injured worker, where nobody needs to see a document. Some conferences with the judge are held by telephone, with every party on one line, and the interpreter dials in to the same call. Phone is also the choice when the worker has no video, or when no interpreter for the language works nearby, because the interpreter can dial in from anywhere. The call is scheduled in advance, with the start time you set when you book.

Who is on the line

The judge leads a conference call, with the injured worker, the worker's attorney and the defense attorney, who acts for the employer or the insurer, all dialed in. In a client call, only the attorney and the worker are on the line. The interpreter dials in too, and can add a third party once everyone is on the line.

The interpreter's role

Without a picture, a pause is the signal that it is the interpreter's turn. The attorney or the judge says one part and stops, the interpreter interprets it for the worker, and then interprets the worker's reply into English. Everything is interpreted in full. The interpreter is neutral, keeps the call confidential, and does not advise the worker or comment on the case.

Documents before the call

Nobody can see a document on a phone call, so anything the call will discuss, such as a notice or an offer letter, should reach the worker and the interpreter beforehand. Add the document to the booking notes in your dashboard with the names of the people on the call.

Choosing between phone, video and on-site for a workers' compensation case

A phone line carries voices only. The other two settings fit when a document or a hearing room is involved.

Preguntas frecuentes

Questions about phone interpreters for workers' compensation calls

Las preguntas que escuchamos con más frecuencia, respondidas por nuestros equipos de despacho y gestión de proyectos.

¿No encuentra lo que busca?

01Can a workers' compensation hearing be held by phone?

The board and the judge decide, and some state boards keep their own list of approved interpreters. Tell us the state and the board when you book.

02Can the interpreter stay on after the judge leaves the call?

Yes, while the booked time lasts. The attorney and the worker can keep talking with the interpreter on the line, and the call stays confidential.

03How does the injured worker join the call?

The worker dials the number in the confirmation and enters the access code, from any phone. No app or link is needed.

04What if the call turns out to need documents on screen?

Tell us, and we move the booking to a video session if the interpreter is available then.

05How is a phone call priced?

By the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. A call with an interpreter runs longer than one in English, and unused time is not refunded, so book enough time for the whole call.

06Which languages do you cover for workers' compensation calls?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Arabic, Haitian Creole and Tagalog are the easiest to schedule by phone, and rare languages need more notice.
