Dónde interpretamos

On-site interpreters for mediations at mediators' offices, court programs and law offices

A mediation takes place at the address the mediator sets. Here are the places our interpreters go, and what to tell us about each one when you book.

Mediators' offices

Private mediators hold many sessions at their own offices, and each side meets the mediator in turn during the private sessions. Tell us the suite number and the floor when you book.

Court mediation programs

Some courts run mediation programs, and the court or the program sets where the sessions are held. Tell us the courthouse, the program and the room, so the interpreter knows where to report.

Law office conference rooms

A mediation is sometimes held in a conference room at one of the law offices involved. Add the firm's name and the conference room to the booking notes.

In-person mediation

What to know about in-person mediation with an interpreter

When the interpreter comes in person

Mediations are often held in person, at the mediator's office or in a room set aside by a court program. The parties and their attorneys start together in a joint session, and then the mediator moves between private rooms to meet each side. An interpreter is booked in person when the party who speaks another language attends in the room. The interpreter sits in on the joint session and then goes with the party to the private room.

Who takes part

The mediator opens the session, meets each side in turn and does not decide the dispute. The parties attend with their attorneys, and sometimes an insurance representative joins when an insurer is paying. The interpreter sits next to the party who speaks another language and moves with that party from room to room.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter lets the party hear and say everything the others do, in the language the party knows best. In the joint session, the mediator's remarks and the other side's statements are interpreted in full. In the private room, the talk between the mediator, the attorney and the party is interpreted too, including each offer and each reply. The interpreter is neutral, keeps what they hear confidential and does not tell the party what to accept.

At the end of the day

AcuerdoTerm sheetRead aloudSigned

Before signing

When the parties reach an agreement, the interpreter reads the term sheet to the party in their language before they sign, so the party knows what each term says. Book the interpreter until the end of the day the mediator has set aside, because agreements are often signed last.

Presencial, por video o por teléfono

Choosing between on-site, video and phone for a mediation

A mediation with several private sessions is easiest with the interpreter at the party's side. Video or phone fits the cases below.

Preguntas frecuentes

Questions about on-site interpreters for mediations

Las preguntas que escuchamos con más frecuencia, respondidas por nuestros equipos de despacho y gestión de proyectos.

¿No encuentra lo que busca?

01What should I put in the booking notes?

The mediator's name, the names of the parties and the attorneys, and the subject of the dispute, so the interpreter can read them before the day. Add the room and the parking too, if you have them.

02How is an in-person mediation priced?

Hourly, for the hours you book, with the total shown before you pay. Unused time is not refunded, because the interpreter is reserved for the whole booking.

03What happens if we need to cancel?

Cancellation is in writing. You get a full refund more than seven days before the mediation, 75% between seven days and 48 hours before, and no refund in the last 48 hours.

04Can we ask for the same interpreter if the mediation continues another day?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

05How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.

06Which languages do you cover for mediations in person?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese and Arabic are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages and mediations far from a large city need more notice.
