Agreements we interpret
Video interpreters for contract negotiations on supply, distribution, licensing and joint venture agreements
The terms differ from one agreement to the next, so tell us the kind of agreement when you book. Our video interpreters join negotiations for four kinds of agreement.
Supply agreements
Prices, quantities, delivery dates and payment terms come up often. Numbers are interpreted exactly as they are said, so a list of the products and units in the notes helps.
Distribution agreements
Talks with a distributor turn on the territory, the products and the length of the agreement. Send the draft ahead, so the interpreter has the names of the regions and the products.
Acuerdos de licencia
Licensing talks turn on the licensed products, the fee and the length of the license. Add the draft to the booking, so the interpreter has the defined terms and uses the same word for each one.
Joint ventures
Partners negotiate each side's share, its duties and how decisions are made. Joint venture talks can run over several rounds, so ask for the same interpreter each time.
Video negotiations
What to know about video contract negotiations with an interpreter
When video is used
Contract negotiations are held by video when the teams are in different cities or countries and cannot meet in one room. Each team joins from its own office, and the draft can be shown on screen while a clause is discussed. Video is also used when no interpreter for the language works near either office, because our interpreters join from anywhere in the US.
Who takes part
Each side sends its negotiating team, with a lead who speaks for the company. Attorneys for either side join to review the terms and the wording of the draft, working from the same version as the team. One side speaks the other language, and the interpreter joins the call to interpret for both sides.

The interpreter's role
A negotiation turns on exact wording, so each statement is interpreted in full. The interpreter does not tidy up a counter offer, and uses the same word each time the draft repeats a defined term. They are neutral, work for neither company, and keep the talks confidential. They do not advise either side on a price or a term.

Draft and open points
Add the current draft and a list of the points still open to the booking, so the interpreter knows the terms before the first clause comes up. When someone refers to a clause, the clause number or the page helps everyone find it on screen. Each speaker pauses after a part, and the interpreter then gives it in the other language.
Presencial, por video o por teléfono
Choosing between video, on-site and phone for a contract negotiation
Video is the usual choice when the two teams negotiate from separate offices. The cases below are better in another setting.
Presencial
Book an interpreter in the room for the final session, a signing meeting or any round where both teams sit at one table.
Contracts and earlier agreements in another language, translated into English with a signed certificate, so counsel can compare them with the new draft.
Questions about video interpreters for contract negotiations
Las preguntas que escuchamos con más frecuencia, respondidas por nuestros equipos de despacho y gestión de proyectos.
¿No encuentra lo que busca?
01Can each company book its own interpreter?
Yes. Each side may book its own interpreter, and both bookings can use the same meeting link.
02Can we use one link for several rounds of talks?
Yes. Book each round as its own session and add the same link to each one. The bookings stay together in your dashboard.
03Are the talks kept confidential?
Every session is covered by an NDA, and connections are encrypted.
04How is a video negotiation priced?
The rate is by the hour, and the total for the booked hours shows before you pay. Talks can run past the plan, so book more time than the agenda suggests, because unused time is not refunded.
05Which languages can you interpret for negotiations?
70 languages. Mandarin, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese are the easiest to schedule, and rare languages need more notice.
06Does the meeting link have to be ours?
No. The interpreter joins as a guest from whichever link you add to the booking, so either company can host.
