Dental visits

What to know about in-person dental visits with an interpreter

When the interpreter comes in person

Most dental visits are held in person, in the exam chair and in the consult room where the dentist goes over the treatment plan. The interpreter reports to the office's address and stays near the patient for the exam, the treatment talk and the instructions at the end. In person is the usual choice for procedures, since the patient is in the chair. A rarer language may bring an interpreter from another city, and the extra travel shows as its own line in the quote.

Who takes part

The dentist examines the patient and explains the findings, and the dental assistant works alongside and gives instructions. The patient describes the problem and asks questions. At the front desk, staff keep the schedule and the bill, and a parent or relative may come with the patient. The interpreter interprets for each of them as they speak with the patient.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter makes the dentist's words as clear to the patient as they would be in one language, whether the talk is about a sore tooth or a cost. Each part is interpreted in full, in both directions, and the patient's questions go back to the dentist as they were asked. The interpreter does not recommend a treatment, does not comment on the cost, and keeps what they hear confidential.

Treatment plan and estimate

Send the treatment plan and the cost estimate with the booking. The interpreter reads them before the visit, so the names of procedures and each figure are interpreted exactly when the dentist goes through the options with the patient.

Presencial, por vídeo ou por telefone

Choosing between on-site, video and phone for dental visits

Dental work is done in the chair, so most visits with an interpreter are held in person. Video and phone fit the conversations around the work.

Como funciona

How dental offices book an on-site interpreter

  1. Informe os detalhes e receba a cotação na hora

Enter the visit date, start time, the office's address, the patient's language and the kind of visit. The price for the booked hours shows right away.

  2. Faça o pedido

Pay online to confirm. The booking opens in your dashboard, where you add the dentist's name, the suite and the check-in steps.

  3. O despachante entra em ação e designa um intérprete

Our dispatcher looks for a medically credentialed interpreter close to the office, and confirms the name and credentials to you.

  4. O intérprete chega ao seu local

The interpreter arrives at the office and checks in at the front desk. After that, the interpreter stays with the patient for the booked hours.

O que você recebe

  • The interpreter's name and credentials, sent to you before the visit.
  • Travel inside the interpreter's metro area, which the hourly rate already includes.
  • A confirmation in your dashboard and by email, with the office notes attached.

Perguntas frequentes

Questions about on-site interpreters at dental offices

Aquelas que ouvimos com mais frequência, respondidas pelas nossas equipas de expedição e gestão de projetos.

Não encontrou o que procura?

01Can the interpreter come to a dental office in a small town?

Yes, in all 50 states. Large metro areas have the most interpreters, and a small town still gets one, with more notice.

02What if the patient cancels or moves the appointment?

The cancellation terms are in writing. A visit cancelled more than seven days ahead gets a full refund, one cancelled between seven days and 48 hours ahead gets 75%, and one cancelled in the last 48 hours gets none.

03Is the session private?

Every session is under an NDA. HIPAA applies to dental offices, and a BAA is available for healthcare customers.

04Can we book the same interpreter for a patient who needs several visits?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

05How is a dental visit priced?

A dental visit is priced by the hour, and the total shows before you pay. Book the appointment plus the check-in, because the interpreter is reserved for the whole booking and unused time is not refunded.

06Which languages are available for dental visits?

70 languages. Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Russian and Arabic are the easiest to book for a dental office. Rare languages, and offices far from a large city, need more notice.

07Seus intérpretes de Polonês são certificados?

Sim.
