Calls in an evaluation

Phone interpreters for evaluation calls about the child's history, consent and scheduling

Phone suits the parts of an evaluation that need no papers on screen and no child in the room. Schools book the calls below.

Parent history interviews

The evaluator can take the child's history over the phone from a parent who cannot come to the school. The interpreter interprets each question and answer in full, so the evaluator hears the parent's own words.

Consent and scheduling calls

Staff call a parent to explain the evaluation and what the parent will be asked to sign, and to agree on dates for the testing sessions. Such calls are short, and they are booked apart from the interview.

Questions after the results

After the results meeting, a parent may call the evaluator with questions about the report. The interpreter interprets the questions and the evaluator's answers, and a note in the booking tells the interpreter which report the parent means.

Evaluation calls

What to know about evaluation calls with a phone interpreter

When phone is used

The history interview and the scheduling calls are only conversation, so they can be held by phone when the parent has no video connection or the evaluator is in another place. Testing the child, and a results meeting with the report on screen, usually work better in a room or on video. The evaluator decides how each part of the evaluation is held.

Who is on the line

The evaluator, often the school psychologist, leads the call and asks the questions about the child's history. The parent answers from home or work, and hears each question in the parent's own language. The speech-language pathologist can join the call for questions about speech, and the interpreter dials in on the same line.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter lets one person speak at a time, because a call has no faces or gestures to follow. The evaluator asks in a few sentences and pauses, and the interpreter gives the question to the parent in the parent's language. The parent's answer comes back in the first person and in full, including answers the parent is unsure of. The interpreter keeps the call private and does not suggest answers.

Interview and scheduling calls

A history interview spans many years and topics, so book it as its own block of time. A scheduling call is short and is booked separately, with the open dates in the notes. Send the history form in the booking notes as well, so the interpreter has the questions in front of them.

Choosing between phone, video and on-site for a special education evaluation

Phone works for the talking parts of an evaluation. Testing and report review call for a different setting.

Como funciona

How to book a phone interpreter for a special education evaluation

Enter the date, start time and the parent's language, and say what the call is for. The price for the booked time shows right away.

  2. Faça o pedido

Pay online to confirm. Your dashboard shows the dial-in number and the access code, which you send to the parent and the evaluator.

Our dispatcher picks an interpreter who has interpreted special education evaluations before and sends you the name.

  4. Entre na sua sessão

At the booked time, everyone dials in with no app or link. The interpreter remains on the call until the booked time is up.

O que você recebe

  • The interpreter's name, sent before the call.
  • A dial-in number and an access code in your project, for the parent and the evaluator.
  • The option to change to a video session if the call needs a form or report on screen, subject to the interpreter's availability.

Perguntas frequentes

Questions about phone interpreters for special education evaluations

01Can the speech-language pathologist be added after the call starts?

Yes. Once everyone is on the line, the interpreter can add another person to the call.

02Can the child speak on the call?

The evaluator decides whether the child joins the call. If the child does, the interpreter interprets the child's words in the first person and adds no hints.

03Can the parent call from a mobile phone?

Yes. Any phone works, a mobile or a landline, and nobody needs an app or a link.

04How is an evaluation call priced?

Phone calls are priced by the time you booked, with the total shown before you pay. A history interview is long, so book it generously, because unused time is not refunded.

05Is the call recorded?

No, unless you ask us to record it. The interpreter works under an NDA, and the connection is encrypted.

06Which languages can you interpret by phone for evaluations?

70 languages. Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese and Tagalog are the easiest to schedule. Pashto and other rare languages need more notice.

07Seus intérpretes de Francês são certificados?

Sim.
