Some courts hold status conferences by telephone, with the judge, the attorneys and the party on one line. The interpreter dials in to that line and interprets for your client in full, in both directions.

When phone is used
Some courts allow short hearings, such as status conferences, to be held by telephone, and the judge or the court's rules decide which ones. Everyone dials in from any phone to a call-in number the court gives, with no app or link. Phone also reaches languages with few interpreters nearby, since the interpreter can dial in from anywhere in the US.
Who is on the line
The judge leads the hearing and rules on the case. Each attorney speaks for a client, and the party, or a witness, replies when the judge asks a question. The clerk keeps the court's record, and everyone joins from wherever they are. When one of them speaks another language, an interpreter dials in to the same call and interprets for that person.

The interpreter's role
The judge, the attorneys and your client cannot see each other on a phone line, so the interpreter keeps one person speaking at a time. Each speaker pauses, and the interpreter interprets that part for your client in full. Your client's answers are interpreted into English as they were said. The interpreter takes no side, explains no rulings and keeps the call confidential.

Yes, when the court holds the hearing by telephone or lets a party appear by phone. Name the court and the proceeding in the quote form.
02Can a person at another number join the call?
Yes. After everyone has dialed in, the interpreter can bring in one more person, such as a client who calls from a different number.
03What if the judge wants to see documents or the party on screen?
Tell us, and we can change the booking to a video session if the interpreter is available.
04Is the hearing recorded?
Sessions are not recorded unless you ask, and the court keeps its own record of the hearing.
05How is a telephone hearing priced?
Phone sessions are priced by the time you book, and the total shows before you pay. Unused time is not refunded, so book the time the court set aside and some extra for the calls with your client.
06Which languages do you interpret by phone for court hearings?
