Hacer bien el Árabe right

On-site interpreters for depositions at law offices, court reporting offices and conference rooms

A deposition is taken at the address in the notice. Our interpreters go to the places below most often, and each card says what to tell us when you book.

Law offices

Most depositions are taken in a conference room at the office of the attorney who noticed them. Tell us the suite number and whether visitors check in at a front desk.

Court reporting offices

Many court reporting agencies have their own deposition rooms with video equipment. If the deposition is recorded on video, tell the videographer where the interpreter will sit.

Conference rooms

A deposition can also be held in a conference room at another address. Give us the building, the room name and where visitors check in.

In-person depositions

What to know about in-person depositions with an interpreter

When the interpreter comes in person

Most depositions are taken in person, in a conference room at a law office or a court reporting office. When the witness is in the room, the interpreter sits with them. The same holds when the attorneys join by video but the witness sits with the court reporter. For a language with few interpreters in the area, the interpreter may travel from another city, and the trip is quoted as a separate line when you book.

Who takes part

Around the table are the witness, who answers questions under oath, and the attorneys for the parties, who ask questions and make objections. A court reporter swears in the witness and writes down everything said on the record. When the witness speaks another language, the court reporter swears in the interpreter before the witness.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter's place is between the attorneys and the witness, and their job is to make the communication as clear as it would be in one language. Every question is interpreted into the witness's language and every answer into English, in the first person, so the transcript reads as the witness's own words. The interpreter is neutral and does not explain questions or add anything to the answers.

Before the day

NoticeExhibit listCase termsPrepared

Before the day

Send the deposition notice, the case caption, the witness's name and the exhibit list with the booking. The interpreter reads them before the day, so names, places and case terms are familiar when the questions start. You get the interpreter's name and credentials ahead of time to pass on to the court reporter.

Presencial, por video o por teléfono

Choosing between on-site and video for a deposition

An interpreter in the room is the safest choice for most depositions. Video can work in the cases below.

  • Presencial

An interpreter in person suits long depositions, witnesses who have never used a video call and depositions with many paper exhibits.

  • Video (VRI)

Video works when counsel and the court reporter are remote and the witness has a quiet room and a good connection.

  • Teléfono (OPI)

    No disponible para esta sesión

Depositions are interpreted on-site or by video.

Preguntas frecuentes

Questions about on-site interpreters for depositions

Las preguntas que escuchamos con más frecuencia, respondidas por nuestros equipos de despacho y gestión de proyectos.

¿No encuentra lo que busca?

01How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours before the deposition, and earlier if you can.

02Is the interpreter court-certified?

Yes. We assign interpreters with federal or state court certification to depositions, and you get the name and credentials before the day.

03Can we ask for the same interpreter for every deposition in a case?

You can ask for it in the booking notes. A booking is for the service, not for a particular interpreter, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

04What if the deposition is canceled or rescheduled?

Cancellation is in writing. You get a full refund more than seven days before the deposition, 75% between seven days and 48 hours before, and no refund in the last 48 hours.

05How is an on-site deposition priced?

By the hour, for the hours you book, and the total shows before you pay. Travel inside the interpreter's metro area is included in the hourly rate.

06Which languages do you cover for depositions?

70 languages, into and out of English. Book a rare language as early as you can.
