Calls around the exam

Phone interpreters for disability claim calls about intake, history and scheduling

A phone call cannot replace an exam that needs the examiner to see the claimant. The clinic or agency books a phone interpreter for the calls before and after.

Intake calls

Before the exam, the clinic calls the claimant to confirm the visit, ask about the condition and explain what will happen. The interpreter interprets the call in both directions.

History interviews

Where the examiner takes the medical and work history by phone, the claimant answers questions about past treatment, jobs and daily activities. Put the claim reference in the notes.

Scheduling calls

A call to set or move an exam date has to be understood in full, including the address, the time and what to bring. The interpreter interprets each detail in both directions, and the claimant can ask questions.

Claim calls

What to know about disability claim calls with an interpreter

When phone is used

A claim call by phone suits the parts of a disability case that need only talking, such as an intake call, a history interview or a call to set the exam date. The exam itself, with its tests, is held in person, and sometimes by video. Phone is also chosen when the claimant has no video, or lives far from the clinic.

Who is on the line

Staff from the clinic or agency dial in at the booked time for an intake or scheduling call. Where the examiner takes the history by phone, the examiner joins too. The claimant picks up from any phone. The interpreter dials in, and once everyone is connected can add a third person, such as a relative the claimant wants on the call.

The interpreter's role

On the call, the interpreter lets staff and claimant talk as they would in one language. What the staff or the examiner say reaches the claimant in the claimant's language, and the claimant's answers reach them in English, in the first person and in full. Answers about the condition are interpreted as given, with no opinions added. The interpreter works for neither side and keeps the call confidential.

Details for the notes

Add the claim or file reference, the clinic's name and the purpose of the call to the booking notes, and the interpreter reads them before the call. Staff say a part and pause, the interpreter repeats it to the claimant, and the claimant's answer is interpreted back. Share the dial-in number and the access code with the claimant, since the confirmation holds both.

FAQ

Questions about phone interpreters for disability claim calls

Celles que nous entendons le plus souvent, auxquelles répondent nos équipes de répartition et de gestion de projet.

Vous ne trouvez pas la réponse ?

01Can the examiner take the history by phone?

The examiner or the agency decides, so ask before you book. If the answer is no, book video or an interpreter in the room.

02Does the claimant need a smartphone or an app?

No. The claimant dials the number from any phone and enters the access code from the confirmation.

03Can we move to video if the examiner wants to see the claimant?

Yes, we can switch the booking to video if the interpreter is available then.

04Are claim calls kept confidential?

Yes. An NDA applies to every call, and nothing is recorded unless you ask. A BAA is available for healthcare customers.

05How is a claim call priced?

The price follows the length of the booking, and the total is shown before you pay. Book the time the staff plan for the call, because unused time is not refunded.

06Which languages can I book for a claim call?

70 languages, each with English on one side. Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Mandarin and Korean are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages need more notice.

07Vos interprètes en Grec sont-ils certifiés ?

Oui.
