Agency bookings in person

What to know about in-person assignments with an interpreter

When agencies book in person

Agencies book an interpreter in person when the witness will sit with the reporter, whether in the agency's deposition room, at a law office or at another address in the notice. We look for interpreters closest to the address first. Travel inside the interpreter's metro area is part of the hourly rate, and a trip beyond it is quoted as its own line. For a language with few interpreters nearby, the interpreter may come from another city.

Who takes part

Your reporter sits at the table, swears in the interpreter and then the witness, and writes down the English record. The attorneys ask their questions, and the witness answers through the interpreter, who sits next to them. At a workers' compensation hearing, the judge runs the room and the hearing reporter takes the record.

The interpreter's role

The interpreter works in the first person, so the witness's own words go into your record and the transcript reads as the witness spoke. Each part is interpreted in full, in both directions, and the interpreter waits for the speaker to pause. The interpreter does not take a side and keeps the testimony confidential. They do not coach the witness, explain a question or offer an opinion.

Access and check-in

Put the address, the suite or room, parking and the check-in steps in the booking notes, and name the person at the front desk if there is one. Add your reporter's name and the witness's name, so the interpreter knows who to ask for at check-in. The interpreter reads the notes before the day.

Choosing between on-site and video for the proceedings you report

An interpreter at the table is the usual choice when the witness sits in the room with your reporter. Video and phone fit the cases below.

  • No local

Choose in person when the witness comes to your room and the reporter works from the same table.

  • Vídeo (VRI)

Video works when the attorneys or the witness are in other cities and the platform is ready.

  • Telefone (OPI)

    Não disponível para esta sessão

Phone is not used for depositions. Book on-site or video for the assignments your reporters cover.

Como funciona

How court reporting agencies book an on-site interpreter

Use the quote form to give the date, start time, address and language, and pick the kind of session. The price for the booked hours shows right away.

  2. Faça o pedido

Pay online to confirm. In the dashboard, add the room, parking and check-in details for the address.

Our dispatcher looks for a court-certified interpreter closest to the address, then confirms the name and credentials to you.

  4. O intérprete chega ao seu local

The interpreter arrives at the address and checks in with your reporter. Your reporter swears in the interpreter, and the interpreter stays by the witness for the booked hours.

O que você recebe

  • The interpreter's name and credentials, ready for the notice or the record.
  • A quote that includes travel inside the interpreter's metro area, with any longer trip listed as its own line.
  • A confirmation in the dashboard and by email, in your agency's name.

Perguntas frequentes

Questions from court reporting agencies about on-site interpreters

01What if the deposition is moved or canceled?

Cancellation is in writing. More than seven days before the session, the refund is in full. Between seven days and 48 hours before, it is 75%, and closer to the session than that there is no refund.

02Can the same interpreter come back for the next session?

Name the interpreter in the booking notes. We book the service rather than a particular person, so we take the request into account and assign them when they are available.

03How is an on-site assignment priced?

Each booked hour has a price, and the total shows before you pay. Book the time the witness is scheduled plus the extra time interpreting takes, because the interpreter is reserved for the whole booking.

04How far ahead should we book?

At least 48 to 72 hours ahead, and earlier if you can.

05Which languages can we book for our reporters' assignments?

70 languages. Spanish, Korean, Russian and Haitian Creole are the easiest to schedule in large metro areas. A rare language, or an address far from a large city, needs more notice.

06Seus intérpretes de Bósnio são certificados?

Sim.
