Meetings we interpret

Video interpreters for CPS meetings, from family team meetings to case plan reviews

Each of these meetings puts the caseworker, the parents and sometimes other relatives on one call. Add the names of the people joining to the booking notes, and the interpreter reads them first.

Family team meetings

The caseworker and the family meet to talk about the child's situation and the plan going forward. Relatives who live elsewhere can join the same link, and the interpreter interprets for everyone who uses the family's language.

Case plan reviews

The caseworker goes through the plan with the parents step by step, and the parents ask questions about each step. Everything said is interpreted in full, including the questions.

Supervised contact planning

The caseworker and the parents agree when and where a parent sees the child under the agency's supervision. The terms of the arrangement are interpreted in full, including any question the parents ask about it.

Video meetings

What to know about child protective services meetings by video with an interpreter

When video is used

Family team meetings and case plan reviews can be held by video when the caseworker, the parents and other relatives are in different places. The agency sets the time, and the meeting link is added to the booking in your dashboard. Video is also used when the family speaks a language with no interpreter nearby, because our interpreters join from anywhere in the US.

Who takes part

The caseworker leads the meeting and goes through the case. The parents or caregivers join to hear the plan and to ask questions, and a supervisor or other relatives may also be on the call. The interpreter joins as a guest and interprets for everyone who uses the family's language.

The interpreter's role

On a video call, the interpreter makes the meeting as clear as one held in a single language. Each person's words are interpreted in full, in the first person, without softening or shortening them. The interpreter takes no side, and the call stays confidential. The interpreter does not tell the family what the agency's decisions mean or what to do next.

Several languages, one link

One booking covers English and one other language, with one interpreter. If the parents speak one language and a relative speaks another, book one interpreter for each, and give both bookings the same meeting link. Each interpreter then interprets for the people who use their language, and the caseworker hears both in English.

How to book a video interpreter for a child protective services meeting

Enter the meeting date, start time, the family's language and the platform. The price for the booked hours shows right away.

Pay online to confirm. The booking opens in your dashboard, where you add the meeting link and notes such as the names of the people joining.

Our dispatcher assigns an interpreter who has interpreted child welfare meetings before, and confirms the name to you before the meeting.

The interpreter joins your link as a guest at the booked time, and the caseworker opens the meeting as usual. The interpreter stays for the booked hours.

  • The interpreter's name, confirmed before the meeting.
  • Your meeting link kept in the project, or a link to a Texliff room that opens in the browser.
  • A confirmation of the booking, kept in your dashboard and sent to your email.

Questions about video interpreters for child protective services meetings

01Can the interpreter join our agency's meeting link?

Yes, on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. If your agency's link does not allow guests, we create a Texliff room link, which opens in the browser.

02What if a parent cannot join by video?

Book the meeting by phone instead, so everyone dials in to the same number from any phone. We do not relay interpretation from a video call to a phone line.

03Can the meeting be recorded?

Sessions are not recorded unless you ask. Connections are encrypted, and the interpreter works under an NDA.

04Does the interpreter need to see the case plan?

It helps. Add the name of the plan and its main terms to the booking notes, and the interpreter reads them before the meeting.

05How is a video meeting priced?

By the hour, for the hours you book, with the total shown before you pay. A review that goes through every step with the parents takes longer when each part is said twice, so book extra time.

06Which languages do you interpret for child welfare meetings?

70 languages. Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Russian and Vietnamese are the easiest to schedule. Rare languages need more notice.
