Afrikaans divorce certificates and decrees come mostly from South Africa and Namibia. In both countries a court grants the divorce, so the paper you hold is a court order, usually a decree of divorce, often with the settlement agreement attached. The marriage certificate is a separate document. It comes from the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa and from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security in Namibia. U.S. offices want the final decree that shows when the divorce became final. We translate the decree you were issued, complete, with any entries on the back.

Texliff's certified Afrikaans translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. For an Afrikaans divorce certificate or decree, USCIS officers look for the date the divorce became final and for names that match the marriage certificate and the passport. Courts read the custody, maintenance and property terms and the case number. A clerk handling a remarriage wants both spouses named in full and the court's seal in place. The signed statement of accuracy is what each of them files with the translation.

Upload a photo or a scan of the decree, every page, front and back. The word count sets the price and it shows before you order. A native Afrikaans translator who works on court and civil records translates it. A second linguist checks the names, the finality date and the case numbers. You follow each step in your dashboard. The signed PDF arrives with a Certificate of Accuracy, and a mailed hard copy is available on request. Rush options are available.
On an Afrikaans divorce certificate or decree, names stay as the court spells them, and a surname restored by the order is translated as ordered. Dates written day first become unambiguous English dates, and the date of the order stays apart from the date the divorce became final. Case numbers, court names and the title of the registrar or magistrate are copied exactly. Stamps and signatures are described where they sit, and handwritten notes in the margin are translated. A settlement agreement attached to the decree is translated in full when you send it.

Yes. Every certified translation includes a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy meeting USCIS requirements, and the same format is accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.
Names are preserved exactly as registered. Afrikaans uses the Latin alphabet; South African records are often bilingual with English, and the translation renders the Afrikaans portions and keeps both aligned.
Dates are day-first and are re-expressed unambiguously.
