Most English divorce records we translate come from the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In the United States the court clerk of the county where the case was heard issues the decree, and some states also issue a short divorce certificate from the vital records office that lists only the names, the date and the county. In England and Wales the court issues a decree nisi and then a decree absolute, now called a conditional order and a final order. In Ireland the Circuit Court Office issues certified copies. We translate whichever you hold, the decree or the certificate, complete.

Texliff's certified translations of English divorce certificates are accepted by consulates, foreign civil registries, universities, courts and employers abroad, and more. A civil registry abroad reads the names of both spouses, the court, the case number and the date the divorce became final, because that date decides whether a new marriage can be recorded. Consulates check that the decree is final and not a conditional order. Dates written month first are spelled out in the format of the receiving country. The signed statement of accuracy goes in with the translation.

Upload a photo or a scan of the decree or certificate, every page, with the back if it carries a stamp. The word count sets the price, and it shows before you order. A native translator in the language you need, who works on court records, translates it, and a second linguist checks the names, the case number, the dates and the seals. You follow each step in your dashboard. The signed PDF arrives with a Certificate of Accuracy. A hard copy is available on request, and rush options are available.
Both spouses' names stay as the decree writes them, including a maiden name restored in the order. Dates are spelled out in the format the receiving country uses. Case numbers, docket numbers and the clerk's file stamp are copied exactly. The clerk's seal, the judge's signature and any later certification stamp are described where they sit. The line that makes the divorce final, whether a decree absolute, a final judgment or a final order, is translated as ruled, along with custody and support terms and any margin notes.

Names stay exactly as issued on your document, transliterated under the destination country's conventions where its records use another script. US-style month-first dates are re-expressed in the destination format so a 05/12 date cannot be misread abroad.
