Norwegian divorce records come from Norway, and the paper you hold depends on when the divorce was granted. The tax office, Skatteetaten, issues the skillsmissesattest, a certificate that the marriage has ended. For divorces after 1954, the County Governor issues the skilsmissebevilling, the divorce permit itself. Divorces from before 1954 are kept by the State Archives, Statsarkivet, so older papers often come from there. Certified copies exist for all of these. Many readers want the paper that shows the date the divorce took effect. We translate the paper you were issued, every page, and the back when it carries stamps or notes.

Texliff's certified Norwegian translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. Officers who read a Norwegian divorce paper look for the date the marriage ended, the full names of both spouses and the issuing office, and they compare those names with the passport and the marriage certificate. Clerks issuing a new marriage license check that the date is clear, so the translation writes the month out instead of the day-first numbers. The signed statement of accuracy is what each office files with the translation.

Take a photo or a scan of your skillsmissesattest or skilsmissebevilling, front and back. The word count sets the price and it shows before you order. A native Norwegian translator who works on civil records translates it, and a second linguist reviews the names, dates and issuing office. You follow each step in your dashboard. The signed PDF comes with a Certificate of Accuracy, and a mailed hard copy is available on request. Rush options are available.
Names of both spouses are spelled exactly as the passport spells them, including the letters æ, ø and å. Dates written day first become clear English dates, and the date the divorce took effect is kept separate from the date the paper was issued. National identity numbers and case references are copied exactly as printed. The name of the issuing office, whether Skatteetaten, the County Governor or Statsarkivet, is rendered the same way every time. Seals, stamps and any handwritten notes are described where they sit.

Norwegian records reference the national identity number; identifiers transfer exactly as printed. Norwegian uses the Latin alphabet with æ, ø, and å — preserved in names exactly as issued; records come in both Bokmål and Nynorsk standards.
Dates are day-first and are re-expressed unambiguously.
