What to know

What to know about a Polish divorce certificate translation

Which Polish divorce record you may hold

Poland does not issue a stand-alone divorce certificate. A divorce is ordered by a court, so the document you hold is the judgment (wyrok rozwodowy), usually with a stamp that says it is final (prawomocny). The divorce is also entered as a note on the marriage record kept by the civil registry office (Urząd Stanu Cywilnego), so a full-form marriage record (odpis zupełny aktu małżeństwa) shows it too. Some people hold both. U.S. offices usually want the judgment with its finality stamp. We translate the judgment you were issued, complete, front and back.

Where the translation is accepted

Texliff's certified Polish translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. For a Polish divorce judgment, USCIS officers look for the date it became final, the case number (sygnatura akt) and the full names of both spouses, and they match them to the marriage record and the passport. Clerks and courts read the operative ruling and any custody or support terms. Each surname keeps the masculine or feminine form it was registered with. The signed statement of accuracy is what each office files with the translation.

Upload the judgment, receive a certified PDF

Take a photo or a scan of the judgment, every page, front and back where there is text on both. The word count sets the price and it shows before you order. A native Polish translator who works on court and civil records translates it, and a second linguist checks the names, the dates and the finality line. You follow the order in your dashboard. The signed PDF arrives with a Certificate of Accuracy, and a mailed hard copy is available on request. Rush options are available.

What the translator checks on a Polish divorce judgment

Names are written exactly as the court registered them, including ł, ż, ś and other letters with marks, and a wife's -ska stays apart from her husband's -ski. The date of the judgment and the date it became final are written out with the month. The case number, the court's name and the judge's title are copied exactly. The finality stamp and its date are translated where they sit on the page. Any note about the surname a spouse keeps or returns to is translated in full, because that is where officers link the name on the divorce to the name on the passport.

FAQ

Polish divorce certificate questions, answered.

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Is a Polish divorce certificate translation accepted by USCIS?

Yes. Every certified translation includes a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy meeting USCIS requirements, and the same format is accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.

02How are Polish names spelled in the English translation?

Polish surnames often carry masculine and feminine endings (-ski/-ska) for the same family name; the translation keeps each person’s form exactly as registered. Polish uses the Latin alphabet with characters like ł, ż, ś, and ę — all preserved in names exactly as issued.

03How are dates converted?

Dates are day-first and are re-expressed unambiguously in English.

04How much does a Polish divorce certificate translation cost?

Pricing is by word count, not by page — a short document costs less than a dense one, and you see the exact total before paying. Certified translation starts at $24.95.
