Portuguese divorce certificates come from Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau. In Brazil and Portugal the divorce is usually written as a note on the marriage record, so the Certidão de Casamento or Assento de Casamento with that annotation is the proof. Cape Verde issues a Certidão do Divórcio through the Conservatória dos Registos on the island where the divorce was decreed. In Mozambique, divorces before 2004 came only from the Tribunal Judicial, and mutual consent cases now go through the Civil Registry. Guinea-Bissau's Certidão de Divórcio comes from the Vara Civil. We translate the version you were issued, complete, front and back.

Texliff's certified Portuguese translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. USCIS officers look for the date the divorce became final and the full names of both spouses, with every surname the record gives, matched to the petition and the passport. Courts and clerks read the same date before a remarriage. Where the divorce sits as an annotation on a marriage record, the translation carries the whole record, because the note is the proof. The signed statement of accuracy is what each office files with the translation.

Send a photo or a scan of the certificate or the marriage record with the divorce note, front and back. The word count sets the price and it shows before you order. A native Portuguese translator who works on civil records does the translation, and a second linguist reviews the names, the finality date and the stamps. You follow the order in your dashboard. The signed PDF comes with a Certificate of Accuracy, a hard copy can be mailed on request, and rush options are available.
Surnames stay in the registered order, with accents and the cedilla kept, and a surname restored after the divorce is translated as the record words it. Dates written out in words or day first become plain English dates. The translator copies the book, page and process numbers exactly, and describes the registrar's signature and the embossed or inked seal where they sit. Averbamentos, the notes added in the margin or at the bottom of a record, are translated in full, since a Brazilian or Portuguese marriage record often proves the divorce only through them.

Yes. Every certified translation includes a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy meeting USCIS requirements, and the same format is accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.
Portuguese-language records commonly carry multiple surnames from both parents; the translation keeps every surname in the registered order. Portuguese uses the Latin alphabet with accents and the ç — preserved in every name; Brazilian and European Portuguese differ in wording and document layout, and our linguists handle both.
Dates are day-first and frequently written out in words on Brazilian certificates — each is converted to a clear English date.
