A Latvian divorce is commonly shown by the court judgment, a spriedums issued in the name of the Republic of Latvia. The marriage it ended is recorded by the civil registry departments (dzimtsarakstu nodaļa), whose records from January 1, 1915 are kept in the Ministry of Justice archive in Riga. Records before that date are held by the Latvian State Historical Archives. Papers from the Soviet era may carry the title in two languages. U.S. offices want the paper that shows the date the divorce became final. We translate the judgment or certificate you were issued, every page, front and back.

Texliff's certified Latvian translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. For a Latvian divorce, officers look for the date the judgment took effect and for both spouses' names, matched to the passport and to the marriage record. Clerks issuing a new marriage license read the same date. Courts reading a support or custody order check the court's name and the case number. The signed statement of accuracy is what each of them files with the translation.

Photograph or scan every page of the judgment or certificate, front and back, and upload it. The word count sets the price, and you see it before you order. A native Latvian translator who works on court and civil records translates it. A second linguist then reviews the names, the finality date and the case number against your scan. You follow each step in your dashboard and receive a signed PDF with a Certificate of Accuracy. A hard copy by mail is available on request, and rush options are available.
Latvian grammar adds endings to names, so each name is returned to its base form and written the same way throughout. Surnames match the passport, and a restored maiden name is spelled exactly as the judgment gives it. Dates are day first and become unambiguous English dates, with the date the judgment took effect kept apart from the date it was issued. The case number, the court's name, the judge's title and any NORAKSTS stamp are copied or described where they sit. Terms for custody and support are translated as ruled.

Yes. Every certified translation includes a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy meeting USCIS requirements, and the same format is accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.
Latvian grammar inflects even foreign names with Latvian endings; the translation renders each name in its standard base form, consistently across the document. Latvian uses the Latin alphabet with macrons and other diacritics (ā, ē, ķ, ļ) — all preserved; Soviet-era records may be in Russian, which we also translate.
Dates are day-first and are re-expressed unambiguously.
