What to know

What to know about a Thai divorce certificate translation

Which Thai divorce record you may hold

A Thai divorce certificate is issued by a district office (amphoe) in Thailand and is called the Tabien Yah. A companion record, the Bai Samkhan Kan Yah, is also in use. The office that registered the marriage can issue it, and so can any other district office. There is no fee. The page carries the Garuda seal and the district registrar's signature. Offices can print a copy in English, and Thais can also request a certified copy through the Thai ID Application. If a court ordered the divorce, the judgment is a separate record. We translate the certificate you were issued, with both sides and any stamps.

Where the translation is accepted

Texliff's certified Thai translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. For a spouse-based petition after a first marriage, USCIS wants to see the date the divorce was registered and both names matching the passport. Offices that issue a new marriage license look at the same date. Courts compare the registering district office and the names. Every Thai date is converted to its Western equivalent. The signed statement of accuracy is what each office files with the translation.

Upload the certificate, get a certified PDF

Upload a photo or a scan of the Tabien Yah, front and back. The word count sets the price, and you see it before you order. A native Thai translator who works on civil records translates it, then a second linguist checks the names, the registration date and the office details. You follow each step in your dashboard. The signed PDF arrives with a Certificate of Accuracy, and a mailed hard copy is available on request. Rush options are available.

What the translator checks on a Thai divorce certificate

Both spouses' names are spelled the way their passports spell them. The dates on the record follow the Buddhist Era calendar, 543 years ahead of the Western one, so the translation converts each date and the divorce date reads correctly. The house registration details, the registration number and the name of the district office are carried over exactly. The Garuda seal and the registrar's signature are described where they sit. Any note about a court judgment or a later correction is translated in full.

FAQ

Thai divorce certificate questions, answered.

The ones we hear most often, answered by our dispatch and project-management teams.

Can't find it here?

01Is a Thai divorce certificate translation accepted by USCIS?

Yes. Every certified translation includes a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy meeting USCIS requirements, and the same format is accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.

02How are Thai names spelled in the English translation?

Thai records reference the house registration book (tabien baan) tied to the person; register identifiers are carried over exactly. Thai has its own script with no spaces between words; names are romanized under the Royal Thai General System or matched to the passport spelling.

03How are dates converted?

Thai documents use the Buddhist Era calendar — 543 years ahead, so 2533 is 1990 — and every date is converted to its Western equivalent.

04How much does a Thai divorce certificate translation cost?

Pricing is by word count, not by page — a short document costs less than a dense one, and you see the exact total before paying. Certified translation starts at $24.95.
